JOB DESCRIPTION
SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
Provides the intensive psycho-educational evaluation of individual children (school age and preschool) identified as or suspected of being handicapped.
Develops and submits written report of evaluation team, delineating the results of the multifactor evaluation for consideration in the development of the individualized educational program for each child studied.
Contributes to a milt factored evaluation, utilizing diagnostic instruments and techniques appropriate for the area of handicap or suspected handicap, as chairperson of the multidisciplinary team.
Consults with teachers, parents, and other educational personnel on matters relating to the education and/or mental health of handicapped children to ensure the provision of the most appropriate education programs.
Counsels individually and in groups with handicapped students and/or their parents.
Serves as a consultant to the schools in the development of education evaluation and accountability procedures, pupil and personnel policies, in-service activities, curriculum, and staff development.
Assists educational staff in implementing or modifying instructional strategies, classroom management procedures, intervention strategies, and follow-up activities.
Provides for a differentiated referral system allowing school personnel and parents to request intensive psycho-educational evaluation and/or consultation for non-handicapped children.
Provides screening programs, mental health activities, and referral to and consultation with outside service agencies.
Works with the administrative and supervisory staff on problems involving guidance, special education, promotion, reports to parents, remedial programs, and other issues related to child adjustment.
Works with teacher sin the development of a better understanding and application of the principles of child development, mental health and implications of individual differences.
Maintains case records assuring confidentiality as required by law, sharing pertinent information in accordance with law and school system policy.
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s Degree in School Psychology or Educational Specialist
Valid Ohio Dept. of Education License as School Psychologist
BCI and FBI check
Expertise on Special Education policies and procedures (specifically strengths in recommending student educational need and the analysis of Ohio Disability Categories)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with children
Public school experience
Ability to work cooperatively with school personnel, community, and parents, and students
Evidence of continued professional growth
Knowledge and expertise of academic and behavioral intervention strategies
