Custom Job Purpose:

This position exists to ensure that all students learn the basic and essential skills at each grade level.
Essential Functions of this Job

A. Instructional Processes

  • Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the NAEP philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in the adopted courses of study.
  • Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans which provide for effective teaching strategies and maximizes time on task.
  • Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet the students' individual needs.
  • Creates a student-centered classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies outlined in the model classroom checklist.
  • Encourages student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits. Provides progress and interim reports as required using the curriculum programs and other assessment tools provided by the school leadership team.
  • Prepares a substitute folder containing appropriate information as requested by the building principal.
  • Plans and prescribes purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals, tutors, and volunteers as needed.
  • Recognizes learning struggles/difficulties and makes referrals as appropriate including but not limited to participating in the IEP process as appropriate and as required by law.
  • Implements any 504 accommodations as appropriate and as required by law.
  • Provides individualized, small group, and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each scholar.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Demonstrates a firm grasp of the subject matter for which the teacher is responsible.
  • Employs professional oral and written expression in all communication.

B. Curriculum Development

  • Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge to improve the school's growth and achievement continually.
  • Assists in the ongoing curriculum revision process, including revising written courses of study.
  • Assists in providing feedback on the selected curricular materials including books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Becomes acquainted with supplemental services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.
  • Implements the chosen curriculum at the school site with fidelity.

C. Classroom Management

  • Develops, according to district and building guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate discipline techniques that are consistently applied.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Shares responsibility during the school day for supervision of students in all areas of the school.
  • Provides for the supervision of assigned students when circumstances require a brief absence from the assignment.
  • Integrates school-wide Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports (PBIS) in the classroom on a regular basis and alignment to school guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the team leader, Dean of Students, and administration to foster a student-led learning environment while implementing character education and classroom roles.

D. Public Relations

  • Upholds and enforces board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations; and is supportive of them to the public.
  • Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and proper conference and planning time.
  • Strives to communicate the positive aspects of the school program to the public in word and deed both on and off campus.
  • Works cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with other staff.
  • Utilizes the school-designated communication processes and mechanisms to collaborate with parents and inform them about student progress.

E. Professional Growth

  • Engages in continued professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  • Maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Cooperates with the administration in planning appropriate in-service training programs on a building or district level.
  • Attends staff, department, and committee meetings as required.

F. Student Evaluation

  • Evaluates students' accomplishments regularly using multiple assessment methods such as teacher-made tests, samples of students' work, mastery skills checklists, ongoing classroom checklist of learning, criterion-referenced tests, and norm-referenced tests.
  • Makes appropriate adjustments in the instructional program based on assessed results.
  • Performs duties necessary to maintain the accountability required for the instructional program and as required by the building principal.
  • Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers by accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws.

Non-Essential Functions of this Job

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Context:

  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, and moving about to coordinate work.
  • Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones, communication applications, and computers.
  • Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals, and meet deadlines.
  • Requires face-to-face or virtual discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams.
  • Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Physical Environment:

  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • May require working outdoors as well, with exposure to outdoor elements including weather changes, foliage, insects, etc.
  • Requires sitting, standing, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds.

Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Bilingual (Preferred)
  • Must be Certified, Qualified, and Highly Qualified as defined by the Course Code(s) assigned (i.e. must have appropriate teacher certificate).
  • NAEP School Network schools are 21st century schools thus a high level of technology comfort and fluency is a critical element for interested candidates. Teacher should demonstrate proficient experience with Google Mail and Google Drive, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS) and email communications.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
  • Command of grades/subject-specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques.
  • Understanding of and commitment to company values.
  • Must pass a drug screening, criminal and employment background checks.
  • Possesses strong time management & organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and displays such between all stakeholders: being courteous, professional, and helpful.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills: Oral (including presentations), Written, Interpersonal (active listening), Negotiating, and Influencing.
