Senior Medical Writer

Our Amplity Health MedComms division has an immediate opportunity for an experienced, talented Medical Writer. Candidates with a strong medical writing background and preferred education may be considered in other remote locations. Eastern Time Zone preferred.

Summary

The Senior Medical Writer is responsible for independently researching a variety of therapeutic areas in order to generate and review content on a range of high-quality projects across various formats for different target audiences and work with design and production teams to produce a range of print, live meeting, and digital materials.

The Senior Medical Writer ensures the scientific integrity of all projects and new business endeavors and supports team members in all phases of activities including researching and brainstorming business development opportunities and assisting in business development activities. The Senior Medical Writer is expected to develop strong and enduring thought leader relationships and will also work with internal stakeholders to propose new ideas and concepts for business development.

  • Independently develops highly credible content for full range of projects across various formats; demonstrates in depth understanding of assigned therapeutic areas or willingness to learn assigned areas
  • Able to lead smaller projects and engage with client teams regularly for status updates
  • Able to follow established processes
  • Objectively evaluates scientific literature/data and holds responsibility for ensuring the scientific quality and integrity of content in conjunction with the Medical Director
  • Researches medical and scientific topics relating to specific therapeutic areas utilizing a variety of information including in-house reference system, on-line journal subscriptions, libraries, and literature search databases
  • Participates in and leads discussions regarding medical content with supporters and KOLs, as appropriate
  • Participates in and leads discussions regarding strategic educational planning with internal team members
  • Manages projects assigned to freelance medical writers and junior team members, as appropriate
  • Develops content across a range of medical education activities and publications including, but not limited to, manuscripts, slide kits, newsletters, meeting reports, posters, and other materials; develops agendas and assists in the recruitment of faculty
  • Assists in program design and the development of outcomes measures for educational activities
  • Contributes to organic and de novo new business initiatives
  • Participates in business development presentations and strategic educational planning activities as requested
  • Serves as an ambassador for scientific services department at external scientific and industry meetings
  • Conducts research regarding new developments in the medical field and networks to solicit new business leads and ideas for business growth

Job Required/Preferred

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree in life sciences, PhD, PharmD, MD, DO, DPH preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in medical writing
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, guidelines related to ACCME, PhRMA, FDA, GPP, ICMJE and OIG rules and regulations
  • Involvement and/or willingness to learn (from conception through implementation) in a broad spectrum of medical content deliverables, including congress and symposia programming, curriculum development meetings, spin-off materials, peer reviewed publications, conference materials, supplements, grand rounds, speakers bureaus, etc

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency with suite of Microsoft Office especially Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Math/Language/Reasoning Abilities

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills required
  • Must be able to work independently and handle multiple high priority projects, as well as supporting functions simultaneously and make sound decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including the ability to interpret and communicate scientific information

General

  • Must be authorized to work in the USA
  • Established reputation for excellence, scientific authority and leadership with client, KOLs, and Scientific Services team
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical scientific information
  • Ability to effectively present scientific/medical information
  • Ability to prioritize job requirements, work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work very well in a team environment
  • Ability to lead client calls and small projects
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work requires extensive work using a computer. Responsibilities may require evening and weekend work including overnight travel in response to needs and established deadlines.
