Description:

The Emory University Office of Spiritual and Religious Life welcomes applications for the position of Muslim Chaplain, at the Associate University Chaplain level.

Reporting to the Dean of Religious Life, the Associate Chaplain supports the dean in providing overall support for spiritual life at the university by providing support for a specific large and complex campus religious or philosophical community, or for several smaller but complex programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Provide outreach to the Muslim community and help to connect, coordinate, and build resources for Muslim life at Emory.
  • Lead religious and educational programming and will provide pastoral care, as well as leadership in community service, social justice, and interfaith initiatives.
  • Working with the Dean of Religious Life, the Muslim Chaplain will also relate with university leaders and stakeholders across the university to ensure a pluralistic campus climate and accommodation in academic policies, sacred space, dining, housing, and other needs.
  • Work with students, faculty, and staff and will attend to administrative matters and to family, alumni and community relations.
  • Support a pluralistic approach to the traditionsupporting the practice of all major branches of Islam.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate degree or equivalent training in Islamic studies, divinity, theology, religion, philosophy, chaplaincy, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in chaplaincy/religious leadership or young adult/campus ministry within and across the Muslim community, which may include internships
  • Demonstrated experience in interfaith dialogue, engagement, and leadership and social justice awareness
  • Experience in higher education and understanding of young adult development through a student empowerment and community-organizing approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Program planning, implementation, and assessment skills
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
  • Utmost discretion and highest standards of professional ethics

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
