Description:

The Emory School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Education Data Systems Analyst to join a group dedicated to providing outstanding medical education to students in six degree programs. The medical education faculty and staff are committed to transforming medical curricula to meet the needs of the 21st century care-giver. Data retrieval and management are a core requirement for affording this transformation. This role is pivotal in our efforts to integrate, analyze, and leverage data from multiple sources to inform educational quality improvements, ensure accreditation compliance, and drive innovation.

The Sr. Data Analyst position is a part of the SOMITS - Curricular Support team and will be embedded in the Office of Education Transformation and Innovation. The position has a dual reporting role to the Sr. Executive Leader for Education and Transformation and SOMITS-CS.

A successful candidate will serve as a knowledge translator who can work with internal and external vendors to synthesize different types of academic data from multiple sources into high-level reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights for education leadership.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Data Integration and Management:

  • Work with internal and external tech partners to integrate data from various sources, including OASIS, AMP, LearningSpace, and others, into a unified database.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
  • Develop and maintain efficient data collection and storage processes.

2. Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Perform high-level data analysis to generate actionable insights related to learner outcomes, curriculum effectiveness, resource allocation, and teaching impact.
  • Create customized reports and dashboards to present educational data in a user-friendly and informative manner.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to support educational continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts.

3. Educational Quality Improvement:

  • Collaborate with educators and educational administrators to identify areas of improvement.
  • Assist in the longitudinal monitoring of learner outcomes, enabling data-driven interventions to enhance education quality.
  • Compare curricular inputs (teaching) with learner outcomes (learning) to identify correlations and areas for enhancement.

4. Resource Allocation:

  • Assist in allocating resources to curricular programs based on data analysis and educational priorities.
  • Analyze resource utilization to optimize the allocation of faculty, facilities, and other resources.

5. Faculty Feedback and Support:

  • Provide faculty members with data-driven insights into the impact of their teaching on learner outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and implement evidence-based teaching strategies.

6. Program Design and Modification:

  • Use data to inform the rational design or modification of education programs within EUSOM.
  • Collaborate with educational leaders to align curricular goals with desired learner outcomes.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Supports the acquisition, management and analysis of data from multiple sites or sources.
  • Supports the configuration and management of technology solutions supporting the receipt, transformation, validation and storage of data.
  • Ensures that the uses of data through reports and queries are appropriate.
  • Serves as an organizational consultant on matters relating to databases by providing expertise to assist users in meeting their needs.
  • Develops automated quality control procedures to assess quality of data and provides reports to data owners.
  • Works effectively within a group setting in areas of design of data collection instruments, database management, analysis of data, and creation of reports and dashboards.
  • Develops and performs appropriate analyses.
  • Provides explanations of analysis methods, assumptions made, and assists in interpretation of results and implications therein.
  • Documents methods and results through development and maintenance of standard documentation artifacts including data dictionaries, standard operating procedures and analysis methodology descriptions.
  • Works with onsite or field-based counterparts to coordinate consistent implementation of data quality control measures and provision of access to the central data repositories.
  • Performs related responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and three years of experience in processes and standards related to data, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience with relational database management systems such as, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL preferred.
  • Experience with statistical packages such as, SAS, SPSS, R preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a data-related field, with a preference for candidates with a strong educational or health sciences education background.
  • Possess general knowledge of computer programming, database development / management, and concepts informing the use and development of data dashboards / reporting tools, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
  • Familiarity with medical education-related accrediting bodies, compliance, and education processes pertaining to health sciences education.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, listening, and collaboration skills.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. ?Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
