Medical Assistant / Occupational Health Services

Shift: Full Time 7am3:30 pm

Location: Emory University Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital, 1455 Montreal Road NE Atlanta, Georgia 30084

Emorys Occupational Health Services (OHS) is a multidisciplinary team which mission is to ensure the health and safety of the Emory community. OHS has 10 locations in Metro-Atlanta, co-located at each of the main Emory Hospitals.

This position is for Emorys hub for post-offer health assessments to assist employees meet their occupational health requirements related to immunizations, respirator clearance and fit testing, vision test, drug screening, vital signs and any other job specific requirement.

We are seeking a capable Medical Assistant who performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN, or LPN.

  • Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN, or LPN.
  • Responsible for performing routine clinical duties to include: taking vital signs, administering a limited profile of medications, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient care setting.
  • Assists in emergency situations as directed by a licensed provider, RN, or LPN. May also be responsible for administrative duties in support of patient and practice operations including patient check in/out, responding to patient requests, reinforcing patient and family education, and visitor/telephone reception.
  • Maintains patients' charts and records data, ensuring proper identification, documentation, routing, and confidentiality.
  • Orders, verifies, and stores unit supplies. Follows Emory Healthcare patient and family centered care standards. May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas. Performs other related responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and one year of medical assisting experience preferred
  • Certificate verifying successful completion of a medical assistant training program from an accredited school
  • Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Certified Medical Assistant Certification required from one of the following organizations required:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Prefers Three (3) years experience in an urgent care or doctor office setting
