GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Cardiac Cath Lab Tech I works as a member of the Cardiovascular Lab (CCL) team of medical professionals. Under the direct supervision, is responsible for assisting physicians during diagnostic and interventional procedures by performing Scrub or Monitor functions. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies in the CCL. Responsible for patient safety in the CCL and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. According to established procedures, prepares patients for cardiac catheterizations or electrophysiology test(s) by calculating and selecting proper technical factors and equipment and operating equipment for optimal results.
2. Is responsible and becomes proficient in assisting physicians during diagnostic & interventional procedures by performing Scrub, circulating, and monitor functions.
3. Ensures files and records are properly completed in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
4. Performs a variety of related clerical duties to enhance the efficient operations of the office/department. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition and ensures same is properly supplied for Cath Lab procedures.
5. Assists physicians and/or performs other related procedures as requested.
6. Responsible for operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies in the CCL.
7. Responsible for patient safety in the CCL and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator.
8. Must be willing to rotate through the following roles: Scrub; performs surgical prep and draping of the patient, assists the physicians with equipment operation and devise preparation. Equipment includes needles, wires, catheters and medications. Assists in adhering to aseptic sterile technique. Monitor; monitors vital signs, during the procedure. Documents the procedure and create a medical record. Records intra-cardiac/arterial pressures and waveforms. Is responsible for interdepartmental communications.
9. Performs Point of Care and WAVE testing requirements as needed per hospital policy.

The cardiac catheterization lab is the “heart” of the hospital where innovative, lifesaving, minimally invasive procedures are performed to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. The cardiac cath lab is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology used to view the arteries and check how well blood is flowing to and from the heart.
The cardiac cath lab at Henry Ford Wyandotte hospital provides 24-hour coverage by an expert team of board-certified interventional cardiologists, nurses and technicians who have special training in a variety of invasive diagnostic, interventional cardiac procedures as well as endovascular procedures.
