JOB TITLE: Content Specialist - Elementary Science (K-6) REPORTS TO: Director, Teaching & Learning Mesa Public Schools is an award-winning district and voted Best Place to Work in Mesa. Base Salary: $54,035.00 Performance Pay: Available annually New hire experience: $500 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience New hire education: $65/hour of graduate level credits: BA 45 hours max, MA 60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees Class/Calendar: Certified Exempt, 187 workdays Benefits: Vacation, sick leave, holidays, matched retirement, health, and life insurance Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification, valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card, evidence of highly qualified status, three letters of recommendation, and transcript of credits. OVERVIEW: The elementary science content specialist's primary responsibility is supporting high-quality instruction in the district's elementary school programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Current Arizona teaching certificate with evidence of highly qualified status to teach science Preferred five years successful classroom teaching experience Membership in professional organizations and affiliations preferred Strong knowledge of State and National Science Standards, MPS science curricula, and familiarity with the MPS instructional program in science overall Knowledge of national, state, and district trends concerning instructional methods, resources, and strategies Evidence of proficiency with technology Ability to work effectively and efficiently on a team without constant supervision and under stressful timelines, and to manage time effectively Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with district personnel at all levels; ability to motivate others Ability and willingness to work outside the traditional working hours of teachers, including evenings and weekends as needed DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate facilitate, and support professional learning in the use of district instructional materials, curricula, competencies, learning progressions, and Arizona Science Standards. Coordinate, facilitate, and support professional learning to support the use of high-quality instructional practices for science instruction aligned to the district promise, Portrait of a Graduate, and Career, College, and Community Readiness Framework. Assist individual teachers and administrators in the development of specialized programs and/or projects Establish positive relationships and maintain open lines of communication with stakeholders including teachers, principals, specialists, etc. Work effectively in a team setting with other specialists Gather, analyze, and report information regarding science instruction on elementary campuses and suggest possible plans of action Provide leadership and assist in the writing, evaluation, and revision of district science curriculum Coordinate the district-level textbook/resource adoption process for elementary science courses Maintain a robust understanding of current science pedagogy and instructional materials Maintain a state and national presence for MPS science programs through conference and committee participation and other appointments as they arise Assist in pursuing grant monies to enhance Teaching & Learning initiatives in science education Maintain the elementary science web resource pages Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the work unit AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ORGANIZATION: The district does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex or gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or marital status.
