Forklift Operator / Material Handler / Shipping Staff
Job Summary: Seasonal position (lasting from approximately early/mid-April 2024 to December 2024) in the company’s labor pool performing the task of operating a motor driven forklift to move full pallets of cases of turkey into the freezer area for proper placement, placing empty pallets in designated areas as well as occasionally manually handling full cases of turkeys. Performs the task of scanning finished product into inventory system with the aid of computer equipment.
Essential Functions:
Forklift Operator Duties: Receives instruction from the Shipping Coordinator and the Logistics & Inventory Manager. Operates a motor drive forklift in order to pull, load and move product and/or merchandise, checking all documents specific to each per company designation. Approximately 80% of work time is a sitting position while operating motor driven forklift. Approximately 20% of work time is a standing/walking position while moving individual cases or performing operations and safety checks. This process involves approximately 90-degree range of motion to the hand and finger areas while grasping steering wheel, approximately 60-degree range of motion to the arm and shoulder areas while driving forklift or moving boxes, approximately 45-degree range of motion to the back while moving boxes, pallets, etc. and approximately 20-90 degree range of motion to the legs while bending. Exposure to frequent short periods of time in sub zero temperature while working in the freezer.
Shipping Assistant Duties: Receives instruction from the Shipping Coordinator and the Logistics & Inventory Manager. Approximately 90% of work time is the use of a handheld scanner (small device used to automatically place case quantities of product into inventory system). Following the completion of each pallet, a pallet label is printed and applied to each pallet. The remaining 10% of work time is a standing walking position while applying pallet wrap to skids of product, moving individual cases, registering back into boxing room any unfinished pallets from prior days production which is stored in the freezer. These processes involve approximately 30-90 degree range of motion to the hand, finger and wrist areas while using the scanner along with 0-90 degree range of motion to the arm and shoulder areas while reaching to individual cases as well as up to 45-degree range of motion to the legs while bending and will be repeated as necessary for approximately for 2.25 hours per session.
