We have an opening for a Plant Manager in our Manchester, CT molding compounds plant.

General Purpose:

Directly manages and oversees plant operations including Manufacturing, Quality Assurance/Control, Maintenance, and EH&S. Dotted line responsibility for Human Resources, Finance, and Engineering. The Plant Manager makes decisions regarding productivity improvement, quality, and efficiency of operations either personally or through subordinates.

The Plant Manager uses analytical skills, judgment, objectivity, and persuasion to ensure the viability of critical decisions that impact capacity, growth, internal and external organizational goals. Must be able to analyze a great deal of information in a short time to make correct and timely decisions. When there is no reliable information, the Plant Manager must demonstrate sound judgment to make a decision.

The Plant Manager assists with planning, developing, and managing company policies to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal government regulations. This role must ensure compliance to all environmental, health, and safety regulations and stay breast of changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.

This role relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan ad accomplish business goals. The Plant Manager performs a variety of complicated tasks including leading and directing the work of others using a wide degree of creativity and latitude.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities that are requirements in order to perform the job:

  • Plans, develops, and implements strategy for operational management and development in order to meet agreed organizational performance plans within agreed budgets and timescales covering all relevant areas of the plant’s operations
  • Contributes to the attainment of sales and profit objectives through the definition and implementation of short and long term development and continuous improvement plans
  • Recommends and implements innovative improvement methods
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of the operational management and development
  • Ensures all activities meet with organizational requirements for Quality and Environmental, Health and Safety regulations
  • Directs EH&S team member objectives and keeps abreast of changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization
  • Includes timely submittal of all required corporate and regulatory reports
  • Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance the profitable operation of the plant
  • Develops and maintains plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees
  • Develops annual operating budget and business plan

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based on business needs:

  • Monitor, measure and report on operational issues, opportunities, development plans and achievements within agreed upon formats and time frames
  • Report operational performance to upper management
  • Develop and facilitate communication with department / functional managers and employees ensuring awareness of operational objectives
  • Fosters inclusion and development of continuous improvement
  • Involved in hiring process, managing and development of plant employees
  • Negotiate and enforce the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with Union Committee and Union Regional representative

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • English: Fluent/native level abilities are required on reading, writing and speaking
  • Should have knowledge of manufacturing software and MS Office tools

Education/Experience Guidelines:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university required
  • Engineering degree preferred (Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials)
  • 10 years of related experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment required
  • Experience in a materials-related business preferred
