Nurse Manager
Donalsonville Hospital's Behavioral Health unit is looking to fill a position for nurse manager.
The nurse manager will lead the frontline nursing staff and deliver excellent patient care. The nurse manager will be responsible for creating an environment of patient-focused care, defining standards for quality patient care, managing and developing work-based teams for assigned shifts, training new staff and providing leadership to our nursing team.

Education requirements:
  • Associates degree in nursing and a minimum of five (5) years nursing experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year psychiatric experience or national certification as a Psychiatric Nurse - preferred
Job requirements:
  • Ensure effective flexible utilization of staff within staffing guideline, taking into consideration the staff's competency and patient acuity.
  • Function as a charge nurse or staff nurse in the event of a staffing emergency
  • Create and maintain monthly staffing schedule
  • Maintain employee education files
  • Evaluate staff performance and work related behavior per policies obtaining information from appropriate personnel utilizing constructive criticism to enhance the performance of the employee.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings providing input or recommendations on clients' medical and psychiatric conditions.
  • Engage in clinical nursing investigations related to improving the delivery of services or lapses in the coordination of care.
  • Provide on-going guidance and direction to agency staff in emergency medical or clinical situations.
  • Ensure regular inspections and proper safeguards of equipment, supplies, storage of medications, and medical records.
  • Recruit, hire, and train staff in the Nursing department, overseeing the orientation of new staff to their respective positions and supervises and evaluates the performance of the staff in the department.
  • Administratively and clinically supervise all Registered Nurses, LPNs, and mental health techs.
  • Ensure that all staff meet or exceed productivity requirements.
  • Encourages continuous development of staff in the department and provides in-service training as needed.
  • Ensures nursing personnel provide whole person assessments and treatments (medication, diet, rehabilitative nursing care, activities of daily living, safety, training in self-care, etc.), and ensures that optimal comfort and care is provided to each individual served.
  • Ensure that the system for documenting nursing services provided to individuals served is in compliance with regulations and standards
  • Perform record audits monthly to ascertain proper documentation of care given and counsels employees on proper documentation.
  • Ensure quality assurance data is maintained and reports are prepared for the Quality Improvement Director and committee.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team with the implementation of annual emergency training and emergency preparedness training.
  • Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with other senior management, outside agencies, and the medical and mental health community.
  • Participates in client home visits in the community, as necessary.
  • Models leadership behavior, sets expectations for team work and hold staff accountable for performance.
  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring of all new staff and coordinating the orientation process.
  • Counsels and disciplines in a fair and objective manner, initiating disciplinary action per personnel policies.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the facility. Maintains a professional appearance and a safe environment, provides excellent customer service, guards patients' rights, and abides by all internal and external legal and care standards.
