Special Education Teacher

REPORTS TO: Principal/Designee

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Licenses, and/or Certificates - A valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in assigned teaching field.

GOAL:

To promote academic achievement of eligible students through use of specially designed instruction.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete designated follow-up procedures for students referred for special education service.
  • Development, implement, monitor, and review the Individual Education Program (1.E.P.) of each eligible student on the caseload, at least
  • Work with parents in all aspects of their child's educational
  • Compile, maintain, and submit all required reports in a timely
  • Schedule and attend all due process
  • Complete all meeting notifications and coordinate scheduling for
  • Bring a draft copy and data to all IEP meetings.
  • Complete referrals for Re-Evaluations: Gather all information, complete referral packet and send to the School Psychologist, Complete required parts of the eligibility
  • Provide educational services according to the guidelines of the program and through the established delivery model for
  • Report student data as requested by the Special Education
  • Casemanagers should report all IEP data information to the data clerks at each school within 3 days of an IEP
  • Provide a Caseload Report (refer to Section 6-FTE) as directed to the Special Education Director
  • Provide an FTE Service Entry Form (refer to Section 6-FTE) on all students listed on the teacher's Caseload Report.
  • Provide a Schedule Verification Form as directed to the Special Education
  • Assure all due process procedural safeguards are afforded students and their
  • Document parent/guardian contacts for due process meetings. This should be documented in the GO-IEP
  • Use special methodology for instruction, according to the population
  • Use carefully designed behavior intervention strategies, as
  • Supervise paraprofessionals assigned to support eligible students in resource and regular education
  • Effectively utilize available technology in the development of the IEP and related documents.
  • Implement assistive and instructional technology as
  • Administer, on an on-going basis, evaluations of student progress toward mastery of established goals and objectives, and reports on

Use progress monitoring (CBM) to report progress on the student's IEP goals.

Reports progress on IEP goals when Report Cards are issued (i.e., typically every 9 weeks).

  • Serve as a resource to the regular education teachers who teach mainstreamed exceptional students.
  • Perform special duties required for meeting the unique needs of specific populations, i.e., lifting physically
  • Review current developments, literature, and technical source information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety
  • Beginning of Every School Term:
    • Inform general education teachers of the accommodations and modifications necessary for the disabled students in their classroom and secure signatures on Receipt of Modifications and/or Behavior Intervention
    • Inform other school personnel, such as bus drivers, of Modifications/Accommodations and/or Behavior Intervention Plan when necessary to meet the needs of the
    • In addition, general education teachers must be informed of their responsibilities related to the IEP and have access to the student's
    • Provide information to new teachers when the student's schedule
  • Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to
  • Attending Special Education Collaborative Departmental/School Wide Meetings:
    • All special education teachers are expected to attend building departmental meetings and system-wide special education
    • These meetings are scheduled to explain rules, regulations, local procedures,
    • Teachers will be notified in advance so that they can make plans to attend
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records/information.
  • Follow federal and state laws as well as Board
  • Adhere to procedures and policies outlined in the certified employee handbook and teacher handbook at the school
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
