Job Description:
Divergent is seeking a talented Additive Machining Engineer to join our innovative team, responsible for developing novel capabilities and driving efficiency, quality, and innovation in our machining operations. By integrating across our design and manufacturing technology stack, you will play a key role in building new machining capability into our Divergent Adaptive Production System.
Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and implement probing routines, coordinate system adjustments, and automated work offset procedures to significantly reduce setup time and enhance overall productivity.
•Support the development of proprietary automated design algorithms that incorporate best practices in design for machinability.
•Utilize your expertise to build systems that effectively machine challenging automotive and aerospace components, leveraging additive printing and automation capabilities to achieve superior results.
•Create novel fixturing strategies tailored to the unique characteristics of additive parts, optimizing stability and facilitating precise machining.
•Establish programming conventions, tooling standards, and machining algorithms to streamline operations and ensure consistency across machining processes.
•Work closely with inspection teams to integrate best practices for dimensional checks, building a process that scales and leverages latest technology in CMM.
•Offer expert advice and guidance on machine shop capability development, CNC machine calibration, and integration into our DAPS manufacturing platform, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
•Explore and optimize machining strategies for new materials.
•Provide insights and recommendations on robotic machining concepts and development efforts, enhancing automation and industrialization of our robotic systems.
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
•10 years of experience in machining development, including at least 2 years with additively manufactured parts.
•Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (strong preference for NX).
•Advanced understanding of machining processes, GD&T, tooling, and fixturing.
•Highly experienced with CNC machining and programming.
•Experience evaluating, selecting and commissioning CNC machines to meet manufacturing capabilities.
•Knowledge of metrology and automated dimensional inspection techniques.
•Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to innovate in a fast-paced environment.
•Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
•[Preferred] Experience with robotic machining systems and calibration methodologies.
•[Preferred] Familiarity with machining automotive and aerospace grade materials, including aluminum, steel and advanced alloys
$91,800 - $145,750 a year
