PAY GRADE: Administrative Support M

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The job of Special Education Coordinator is done for the purpose/s of implementing and maintaining Special Education programs and services in conformance to district and state objectives; providing written support and/or conveying information; serving as a resource to other school personnel, the Board, staff and other districts; and maintaining adequate staffing to ensure that the objectives of programs and services are achieved within budget.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Assists with personnel functions (e.g. recruitment, hiring, evaluations, etc. for teacher applicants, instructional aids, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and ensuring that objectives of Special Education programs are achieved within budget.
  • Collaborates with District personnel and peers (e.g. Special Education, Vocational Educational, Regular Education, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
  • Coordinates program components, support needs and material for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines.
  • Develops proposals, new programs, budget and grants for the purpose of meeting District goals.
  • Evaluates Special Education programs and/or projects for the purpose of carrying out and achieving objectives within area of responsibility.
  • Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of implementing and maintaining district Special Education programs and services which achieve desired objectives.
  • Implements assigned programs and/or projects for the purpose of conforming to district and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives.
  • Performs personnel functions (e.g. recruitment, hiring, evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and ensuring that objectives of Special Education programs are achieved within budget.
  • Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Presents information on programs, services, regulations, etc. for the purpose of serving as a resource to other school personnel, the Board, the community and other districts.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):

  • Master’s Degree required
  • Arizona Supervisor certification preferred
  • Arizona Principal certification preferred
  • Special Education teaching experience (3-5 years) preferred
  • Evidence of special education program knowledge

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):

  • None

SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

  • Demonstrated mastery of communications skills, decision making, and human relation skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
