Ascension Catholic School is Hiring a Middle School Science Teacher Near Melbourne, FL

Description

Ascension Catholic School, is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic qualified teacher certified in the area of Science 5-9 or 6-12. The teacher candidate is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Diocese of Orlando. The teacher is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Diocese of Orlando and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of the local school. The teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Teaches and acts in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church.

· Understands and appropriately teaches the curriculum of the Diocese of Orlando.

· Assesses student progress in accordance with the approved procedures of the Diocese of Orlando.

· Knows, teaches and acts consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies and procedures of the Catholic school.

· Maintains Florida state teaching certification.

· Communicates regularly with parents/guardians, colleagues and principal.

· Participates in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Faith Fit Enrichment Program and in Diocesan and school-sponsored professional development programs.

· Performs teaching duties as assigned by the principal.

· Attends required faculty and staff meetings.

· Cooperates with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities and projects.

· Maintains accurate student attendance and academic records.

· Maintains a safe, orderly and secure learning and working environment.

· Participates in the semi-annual performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator in a school.

· Maintains confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students and general school matters.

· Supervises and evaluates students, escorts students from building to building and on field trips (being responsible for keeping field trip permission slips as well as student medical information forms).

· Performs other duties as assigned.

· The principal assigns specific tasks essential to the function of the position.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Practicing Catholic preferred.

· Compliance with Diocesan FBI fingerprint clearance and compliance with Safe Environment training and test requirements.

· Florida State Teaching Certification in Science 5-9 or 6-12.

ORGANIZATIONAL/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

· Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required.

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS

· The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

· The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. 

· Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Ability to lift at least 15 pounds. Physical demands include balancing, carrying, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, sitting, standing, reaching, stooping, talking and walking.
