Assistant General Counsel - Transactional
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant General Counsel - Transactional at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
Job Purpose
Represent the University’s legal interests in transactional matters. Provide legal counsel and representation to defend the University’s legal interests and maintain its integrity. Provide guidance and support to ensure the University complies with its legal requirements and to reduce its liability and risk exposure. Provide counsel and advice to University schools, colleges and divisions.
Essential Functions
Draft and review University contracts, act on behalf of the University in negotiating transactional arrangements. Consult with University administration regarding a wide range of agreements, assist with related transactional matters, including contract enforcement and compliance tracking.
Provide counsel and advice to University divisions colleges and departments. Respond to questions and address issues to ensure
University legal compliance and reduce liability exposure.
Represent and/or support the University’s interests in judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings, arbitrations and internal hearings.
Research and review legal authority and related materials to develop strategy. Conduct and/or assist with discovery. Supervise retained outside counsel.
Attend meetings and serve on committees and working groups. Review and recommend modification of University policies and procedures.
Handle special projects as assigned.
Perform administrative and related work as assigned.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Juris Doctorate degree
Experience
Expert (established subject matter expert, 7 years experience)
Preferred experience: 10 years, with an emphasis on representing an institution of higher education or other public or non-profit entity, considerable experience with transactional matters, healthcare law.
