Clark Nexsen is Hiring a Project Manager Near Virginia Beach, VA

We seek to hire a Project Manager for the Federal Market Sector will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing activities on single or multi-discipline projects involving architecture, engineering, planning, interior design or other areas of the firm's practice. They will serve as the primary point of contact for contracts and projects with the Department of Defense (DoD) worldwide.
General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Knowledge of Federal processes and criteria necessary to effectively lead, motivate, and communicate with a project team during scope and project execution
  • Leading,motivating, and effectively communicating witha project team during scope and project execution
  • Working with the Managing Principal and Design Manager to develop and present projects to clients, contractors, project team members, authorities having jurisdiction, and members of the public through all stages of the project
  • Coordinating with Federal clients to ensure successful completion of projects that may involve either new construction or renovation
  • Facilitating a professional and successful relationship between Federal client, contractors, and the project team
  • Participating in firmwide management meetings
  • Actively support Managing Principals and Marketing in the Company's Federal marketing and business development activities
  • Preparingcontracts and fee proposals for Managing Principal's review and participating in contract negotiations
  • Ensuring staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures
  • Developing and managingproject planning, budgeting,and critical project objectives
  • Verifying project consultants are properly licensed and insured
  • Assembling staff for project teams with input and concurrence from Managing Principals, Department Directors, and Department Heads
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Managing Principals and Senior Project Managers
Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Performing Managing Principal duties as assigned
  • Organizing and facilitating project meetings with the client including Concept Design Workshops, Design Review Conference, and Value Engineering studies
  • Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of UFC and other federal codes, specific agency requirements and design standards
  • Preparing effective and concise documents
  • Assembling and transmitting timely project deliverables to the client
  • Monitoring scope/schedule creep
  • Providing weekly progress reports to Federal Clients
  • Maintain project documentation in electronic files and Newforma
  • Assembling and maintaining design discipline work plans
  • Preparing and monitoring project budgets and schedules with input from each discipline and consultants
  • Facilitating project team meetings to review project scope, project progress, and schedule issues as well as team coordination, coordination with consultants
  • Reviewing RFI and shop drawing submittal responses for appropriateness and completeness
  • Preparing draft monthly invoices, 12-month invoice projections and monitor accounts receivable
  • Reviewing and approving project related expenses and consultant invoices
  • Assembling and review design "milestone" submittal deliverables and ensure completeness and quality of the submittal
  • Performing project closeout and archiving tasks
  • Scheduling QC/QA reviews
  • Scheduling and/or conducting periodic site visits during construction
Education, Technology, and Experience
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, interior design or planning is preferred
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Interior Designer is preferred
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever-increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
  • A Project Manager should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and project management.
  • Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to understand the capabilities and limitations of the programs and interact with the support staff in their use of the software is highly desirable.
  • A Project Manager should typically be a licensed professional or have 12 years or more of significant design and practice experience in a leadership role in the areas of the firm's practice.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Previous experience with DoD projects may be given additional consideration
  • Ability to travel is required
  • Ability to obtain a US Government issued Secret level Security Clearance is required
  • Ability to access military installations globally is required
  • A client-oriented attitude with a desire to provide outstanding professional services is required
  • Demonstrated recognized leadership within the firm and outside the firm is desired
Physical Requirements
Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight.
