The Delaware Outpatient Center for Surgery is currently hiring 1 Full-Time Registered Nurse for the Pre-Op/PACU department.

Position Summary

Provides direct nursing care to patients in the Pre-Op and PACU area. Specific functions can vary depending on the area to which employee is assigned (i.e., pain management, pre-operative, post anesthesia.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Cares for surgical patients by providing pre-operative and post-operative instructions
• Assesses and evaluates patient condition pre- and post-operatively and communicates to physician and anesthesia personnel any changes in patient status
• Administers to the assessment of physical, pain, and emotional needs of patients
• Understands and interprets physician's orders; reviews lab values, EKG's and X-Ray reports
• Checks the accuracy of admission paperwork (history, consents, instructions, etc.);
• Assessment and documentation of patients’ medical histories, including allergies and other assessment parameters, per policy;
• Provides prescribed medications and other pharmaceutical products in accordance with physician's orders;
• Understands and interprets medication dosages, contraindications and side effects;
• Initiates safe practices and is knowledgeable about current center policies and procedures;
• Provides assessment of physical, mental, pain and psycho-social health status of the child adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations;

Qualifications, Education & Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Nursing degree from a fully accredited school of nursing;
• License to perform as a registered nurse in the State of Delaware;
• Two (2) years recent experience in the Pre-Op, PACU or Critical Care setting .
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required (PALS recommended)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
