Department: Solutions

Reports to: Director of Solutions

This position is responsible for installing, servicing, and maintaining customer-owned or leased audio-visual products. Providing knowledgeable, honest, and reliable service with integrity helps maximize customer retention, which is a pivotal component of our company’s continued success.

Description (Summary/Objective):

The Commercial AV Installer works daily to provide exemplary customer service in various office environments while installing and maintaining office equipment. This technically inclined person understands the proper workings of business technologies and can independently diagnose and troubleshoot problems. This individual is responsible for managing an inventory of tools and supplies necessary to install AV equipment in the field. This role’s pay is determined by a combination of skills, training, certifications, and leadership experience.

Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

The Commercial AV Installer is assigned to the Solutions Department led by its director and will occasionally work directly with other members of DCA’s departments. Specific responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • AV-Related Tasks:
    • Conduct site assessments for AV equipment placement, and install, configure, and set up various AV equipment such as projectors, screens, and audio systems.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with AV systems.
    • Perform a full range of installation and preventive maintenance functions.
    • Demonstrate technical skills necessary to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment.
    • Facilitate the resolution of equipment issues and effectively communicate with the customer throughout the process.
    • Meet and exceed appropriate productivity levels relative to tasked assignments.
    • Provide installation, key operator, and customer training as requested.
    • Maintain certifications, training levels, and working knowledge of assigned products.
    • Stock and manage inventory of DCA-owned AV equipment and follow approved policies and procedures for inventory controls.
    • Stay up-to-date on new AV technologies and industry practices to ensure DCA remains competitive and offers the latest solutions.
    • Participate in DCA-financed training sessions to improve skills and obtain additional certifications relevant to the AV industry.
    • Provide technical support and guidance to customers post-installation to ensure their satisfaction and the optimal functioning of the systems.
    • Collaborate with other trades on-site (e.g., electricians, carpenters) to ensure smooth integration of AV systems into the overall project.
    • Document installation processes and create as-built drawings for future reference and maintenance.
    • Assist in developing and implementing standard operating procedures for installations and services.
  • Cabling-Related Tasks:
    • Install, pull, terminate, and test Cat 5e, Cat 6, and fiber optic cables.
    • Build out MDF/IDFs and install Wireless Access Points (WAPs), J Hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and other supports.
    • Complete Telecommunication Room build-outs, including rack construction, ladder rack installation, wire management, and backboard construction.
    • Understand the National Electrical Code and Local Building Codes as they apply to low voltage to ensure no violations are being performed on assigned projects.
    • Ensure proper cable management and organization for a clean, professional installation appearance.
  • General Responsibilities:
    • Read blueprints, understand basic wiring diagrams, and follow installation instructions.
    • Ensure safety and compliance with regulations during installations and provide exceptional customer service.
    • Satisfy all internal reporting requirements promptly.
    • Participate in periodic AV-related meetings, open houses, or other company-sponsored customer-relations events.
    • Protect proprietary and confidential information.
    • Work as needed with internal departments to ensure a seamless and positive experience for the customer.
    • Maintain and consistently present a professional image.
    • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays, optional or as part of a rotation as needed.
    • Wear the company uniform during all project-related duties unless specifically directed otherwise by a supervisor.
    • Coordinate with project managers, other vendors, and customers to ensure timely and efficient project execution.

Supervision (Supervisory Responsibilities):

While this position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, the Commercial AV Installer may periodically be called upon to train new Commercial AV Installers. DCA is a growing company, and as such, this position could lead directly to a Team Leader (management) role in a short period based on location, skills, experience, and leadership qualities.

  • Project Management: Capable of handling multiple projects with timely completion and budget adherence.

  • Problem-solving: Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Customer Service: Committed to delivering high-quality service and building long-term client relationships.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations for AV installations.

  • Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay informed about industry trends and technologies.
  • Professionalism: Maintaining a professional image and adhering to company standards.
  • Physical Abilities: Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and performing tasks that require kneeling, bending, and frequent use of tools.
  • Vision: Must meet specific vision requirements for close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Experience (Required and/or Preferred Experience)

  • A bachelor’s degree or technical degree is preferred but not required.
  • Previous technical service experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an AV-related environment or with AV-related activities.
  • Proven ability to work in direct contact with customers.
