Senior Counsel - Commercial Real Estate Redevelopment

Are you a seasoned legal professional with a passion for navigating complex real estate matters? We're seeking a Senior Counsel to join our team and lead high-stakes projects in the realm of commercial real estate redevelopment. In this role, you'll be responsible for drafting crucial legal documents, advising on real estate transactions, and representing our corporation in legal proceedings.

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid - report to office 3 days per week)

Responsibilities:

• Handle redevelopment, land use, entitlement, and permitting matters
• Guide the subdividing process with precision
• Conduct thorough title and survey reviews
• Supervise local jurisdictional land use counsel
• Negotiate development and joint venture agreements
• Review and draft REA, easements, and other property documents
• Oversee construction and AIA contracts
• Manage leasing and subleasing activities
• Provide insightful interpretation of leases and real property documents to support business strategies

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor with at least 6 years of commercial real estate experience
• Strong expertise in land use and redevelopment, preferably in retail real estate
• Proven ability to identify and mitigate risks
• Exceptional project management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines
• Previous experience in both law firm and in-house settings preferred
• Ability to thrive in autonomy, handle challenging negotiations, and exercise good judgment
• Excellent analytical and communication skills
• 5-10 years of relevant experience
• Minimal travel required (less than 5%)
