Schedule:
Weekend and night availability is required as needed (to work with the ticketing system, to cover Zoom sessions for Master's programs). All other times are M-F, 8a-5p.

Position Purpose:
The Multimedia Specialist is a member of the Learning Design and Innovation ( LDI ) team, a group of instructional designers, educational technologists, and educational media experts within Dartmouth's Information Technology and Consulting department. The Multimedia Specialist produces learning media content (e.g., educational videos, voiceover recordings, animations, motion graphics, graphic elements, and tutorials) for select Dartmouth courses, including online and blended courses and programs.

You are able and willing to work in a hybrid, and/or onsite (Hanover, NH) environment for at least one year.

We are the Digital Online Education Team at Dartmouth - instructional designers, developers and technologists who work to spark and infuse high-impact digital learning at Dartmouth. We're highly collaborative, technically oriented, reflective, forward facing, and not afraid to try new things (even when they don't work out). We have a shared sense of accountability and mission that we use to support others and ourselves.
What about daily life? Work with faculty and students who are (relatively or entirely) new to online teaching and learning, supporting them with technological coaching. Solve problems, record and edit educational video content, build courses and multimedia assets, write video production guides, develop new processes, share information. Remain curious, patient, flexible, and collaborative while also working independently.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp: Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant discipline (educational technology, media production)
  • Experience in high quality video production and post-production with demonstrable ability to create finished videos.
  • Familiarity with hardware and software used in media production, including: use of studio equipment (e.g., video cameras, teleprompters sound and lighting equipment, greenscreens); video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects); and multimedia production software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Stock Assets).
  • Proficient at video/audio post-processing (e.g., color grading, select trim and split, audio correction, animation); experience in visual design (graphic design, motion design).
  • Knowledge in current video technology and media production best practices.
  • Ability to work successfully in a hybrid, and/or onsite (Hanover, NH) environment.
  • Superior ability to engage in positive interactions and provide professional customer service to all members of the Dartmouth community.
  • Knowledge of effective task and project management practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and keen ability to work as a team member and independently.
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to repeatedly (and for extended periods of time) sit, stand, stoop and walk, as well as lift, lower and transport loads up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to hear a wide range of levels and tones with strong vision, including good depth perception and ability to differentiate colors.
  • Ability to travel (e.g., ride in a motor vehicle for extended periods of time) as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in at least one Learning Management System.
  • Proficient with eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate 360 (Rise 360, Storyline 360), Adobe Captivate, Lectora, etc., preferred.
  • Experience working at an academic institution and partnering with faculty and staff to support teaching and learning.

Key Accountabilities

Preproduction, Production and Postproduction 70%
  • Coordinates and supports multimedia projects in partnership with faculty, the Educational Media team and Learning Designers.
  • Creates educational digital media content (e.g., motion graphics and animations) that are student-centered, accessible, and inclusive.
  • Ensures effectiveness of quality assurance processes and practices (e.g., incorporating feedback from project teams and editing & publishing video content, accordingly).
  • Guides and confers with faculty regarding project concept, objectives, creative approaches (e.g., shooting style and lighting considerations), content and presentation approaches.

  • Maintains a library and database of multimedia assets.
  • Oversees preventative maintenance and basic repair of equipment as well as the installation, modification and upgrading of software as needed.

  • Develops understanding of similarities and differences in diverse cultures through employee education programs.
