Cumberland County Government is Hiring a Patrol Deputy Near Portland, ME

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Patrol Deputies to join our ranks! We are a very progressive law enforcement agency that promotes a Community Policing philosophy. This position is 40 hours per week, with a full benefits package. Pay is commensurate with experience and starts at $28.36/hr. Stipends and shift differentials are available, as well as up to 15 YEARS in lateral credit and a $6,000 sign on bonus for blue pins!

Our dedicated and elite Patrol Deputies:

  • Prevent crime by explaining and enforcing applicable federal, state, county, and local laws and ordinances; teaching preventative, protective, and defensive tactics; mediating disputes; patrolling assigned area; responding to notices of disturbances; conducting searches; observing suspicious activities; detaining suspects.
  • Apprehend suspects by responding to complaints and calls for help; observing violations; making arrests.
  • Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence; interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects.

To join us in protecting and serving the citizens and visitors of towns in Cumberland County you must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age;
  • Hold a HS Diploma or equivalent;
  • Hold a valid Maine Driver’s License;
  • Reside in the State of Maine and not more than 15 miles outside the Cumberland County border;
  • As a CALEA accredited agency, until spring 2024, we are only able to hire MCJA certified patrol officers (ie blue pins).
