Job Summary

Traffic Officers are sworn-in police, focusing on maintaining traffic safety and efficiency of the roads. Duties include but are not limited to directing traffic, managing accidents, and educating the public on laws and safety guidelines. They may assume the responsibility of the crossing guard if one is not present. Traffic officers may also control crowds during emergencies to make sure fire and rescue workers can get to the scene safely. May perform other duties as required.

Inside Officers are sworn-in police, focusing on maintaining safety inside the venues. Performs security and safety duties for the Bojangles’ Entertainment Complex and/or Charlotte Convention Center. Responsible security/safety position involving the protection of life and property. Interacts in a positive and responsive manner with event management, clients and attendees of events. Responsible for controlling and monitoring vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Convention Center roadways, freight docks, service roads and temporary staging areas. Performs other related duties as required.

Fire Marshals' duties include but are not limited to fire code enforcement or investigating fires for origin and cause. Fire Marshals may be sworn law-enforcement officers and are often experienced firefighters. The Fire Marshal is responsible for enforcing laws concerning flammable materials.

The Fire Marshal has responsibilities to make sure the working environment is safe in case of a fire. They must check that fire doors and fire exits are closed, clear, unlocked and ready for use. All escape routes are safe, unblocked and clear. May perform other duties as required.

Scope of Responsibility

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to anticipate customer needs, builds positive relationships with customers and vendors, goes the extra mile to satisfy and exceed customer needs.
  • Treats all customers and vendors with the highest degree of respect and courtesy
  • Delivers exceptional service to internal and external customers.

Education and Experience

  • Sworn law-enforcement officers and/or experienced firefighter
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; spreadsheet software; power equipment; lighting equipment; audio equipment; video equipment; rigging equipment; counterweight fly system; computer networking; headset communication and two-way radio.

Physical Demands

  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.

Work Environment

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, may be high depending upon the event.
