Crisp Regional Health System is Hiring a Certified Surgical Technician Near Cordele, GA

Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Director of Surgical Services, the Certified Surgical Technician is an active member of the department that collects data, provides comfort measures and basic care to patients. The Surgical Technician Certified prepares for scheduled and emergent cases, gathers required supplies and prepares for the next day's cases. The Tech collaborates with the healthcare team providers to prepare for the peri-operative patient's surgical procedures. The Tech assist with ordering and restocking of surgical suites with necessary supplies and records preference cards electronically providing up-to-date information that assists in achieving quality surgical outcomes for all cases. The Tech maintains instrumentation and surgical supplies on sterile field for accurate counting during procedures and signs off on count sheets after finishing cases to assure correct instrument and ancillary supply counts. The Tech decontaminates and prepares used instruments for transport to CS for terminal cleaning and sterilization and adheres to all procedures for labeling of medication or fluids on sterile field. The surgical tech functions in the capacity of a central sterile tech and assist with maintaining records for the processing of surgical instruments.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Education:
Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification and the successful completion of a Surgical Technician program.
  • Experience:
Requires up to one year of work related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:
Requires and maintains a Surgical Technician certification. (If Surgical Technician Certification is not current, it must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.)
Requires and maintains a certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS). (If BLS certification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within the orientation period).

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team with positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians, co workers, and staff from other departments of the organization.
  • Provides direct support to the nursing staff in the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Follows the department director's and licensed nursing staffs' instruction and directions.
  • Complies with CRHS and departmental safety, infection control, and performance improvement initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality care and services.
  • Prepares for scheduled and emergent cases, gathers supplies for cases and pulls supplies for the next day's cases.

  • Collaborates with the healthcare team providers to be ready for the peri-operative patient's surgical proceduresand assists with timely room turnover.
  • Orders and restocks surgical rooms with necessary supplies, as evidenced by staff and supervisor observation.
  • Collaborates with the surgical staff to provide up-to-date information on preference cards that assists in achieving quality outcomes for all surgical cases.
  • Tracks surgical product use to ensure accurate surgical case charges. Maintains instrumentation and surgical supplies on sterile field for accurate surgical counting.
  • Decontaminates and prepares used instruments for transport to CS for terminal cleaning and sterilization.
  • Performs the sterilization of all instruments and equipment, prepares the sterile instrument trays and maintains the records of all related work.
  • Follows all procedures for labeling of medication or fluids on sterile field appropriately and within the scope of practice for surgical scrub technicians, as defined by: AORN's Standards and Recommended Practices; CRHS policies and procedures; and the NPSG's.
  • Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team promoting positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, physicians and other healthcare staff.
  • Takes on-call duty on an as needed basis.
  • Complies with CRHS and department safety, infection control and performance improvement initiatives to ensure the delivery of quality care and services.
  • Presents a professional image to CRHS nursing and medical staff members.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

  • Maintains instrumentation and surgical supplies on sterile field for accurate counting during procedures and is documented in the surgical record to assure correct instrument and ancillary supply counts.
  • Decontaminates and prepares used instruments for transport to CS for terminal cleaning and sterilization. Performs duties in the Central Sterile Processing department and maintains records of same.
  • Adheres to all procedures for labeling of medication or fluids on sterile field.
  • Complies with all standards of care, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates reliability as measured by compliance with the CRHS Time and Attendance policy.
  • Demonstrates professional conduct and adherence to all safety, confidentiality and HIPAA standards.
  • Promotes teamwork with the entire staff as well as other contacts within the hospital, as measured by observations of Manager and co-workers.
  • Actively participates as a member of the healthcare team by attending all mandated in-services, as well as departmental staff meetings as determined by the department director.
  • Adheres to the CRHS Standards of Behavior as measured by observations of staff, as well as outside and other inside customers.
  • Verbalizes all core competencies of the unit and department.
  • Complies with all regulatory requirements including the National Patient Safety Goals as observed by peers, supervisor and all members of the healthcare team.
