Thresholds is Hiring a Team Leader - Young Adult Residential Near Chicago, IL

Description

Are you ready to take the next step in your career? As a residential Team Leader in our Young Adult Program, you will supervise a dynamic team of Residential Support Specialists as they support young adults ages 16-21 with mental health challenges.

As a "player-coach," you will work alongside Residential Support Specialists on your team in the residential setting. You and your team will assist the clients as they learn and practice skills related to what matters most to young people: relationships, school success, recreational activities, health and wellness, early career experiences, and day-to-day living. You will also ensure safety by helping youth regulate and safely express their emotions, including using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) skills. As a leader in the program, you will support your staff as they teach independent living skills like hygiene and housekeeping, help residents prepare meals, model relationship-building skills, and coach youth on coping skills.

As you see the youth progress, you will document their experiences, success with medication management, and recovery process as they transition to adulthood. Similarly, you will foster professional development in the Residential Support Specialists through regular supervision. You will engage and motivate your staff, provide direct feedback, coach staff to meet billing targets, ensure the residence is adequately staffed for each shift, and help staff work through challenges. Share your knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based practices and receive ongoing opportunities for training, clinical supervision, and leadership development.

To succeed in this role, you need:

  • Passion for mental health advocacy
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills
  • Adaptability to staff and client needs, including flexible evening and weekend availability
  • Patience and willingness to meet youth where they're at
  • A valid driver's license, current car insurance, and a car for daily use
  • To be able to perform Therapeutic Crisis Intervention therapeutic restraint techniques, which require moderate exertion, being able to lift 40 pounds, and the mobility to lower self to a kneeling position on the floor. This training is provided and required by Thresholds.
