Summary:
The CVRU Nursing Care Assistant, Level 1, (NCA), demonstrates excellent customer service performance and supports a work environment in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare, and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
The CVRU NCA works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Unit Coordinator. Direct patient care responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with the admission process, vital sign and pedal pulse checks, performing clip preps, performing post procedure assessments, assisting with sheath pulls, placing Foley cathters, ambulating patients, assisting patients with meals (including feeding patients as needed), transporting patients, and assisting in the discharge process. The NCA also maintains patient rooms and work areas, assists with departmental QA programs, maintains accurate and appropriate records according to regulatory agency protocols, maintains adequate stock, cleans equipment, maintains a clean working environment, and participates in regularly scheduled unit meetings. He/she performs other duties as assigned.

Demonstrates excellent customer service in attitude and actions at all times consistent with the Code of Conduct.
Clinical contact with patients in the adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups
Ability to appropriately assess, care for and treat patients according to the age-appropriate care guidelines as defined by Covenant Healthcare
Prepares patients for procedures, including but not limited to immobilizing or positioning body parts, specimen collection, skin preps and clipping, catheter insertion and maintenance and collection monitoring, femoral sheath pulls and maintenance, groin care and post groin dressing application.
Performs patient vital sign checks including heights, weights and orthostatic blood pressures, and collects other physiologic data as requested.
Monitors patient status post procedures.
Demonstrates proper use of blood glucose monitor, pulse oximeter, bladder scanner and automatic BP machine.
Monitors and assists with patient nutritional input and output, and collects specimens for labs as necessary.
Participates on CVRU arrest team: Attaches monitors to patients, inserts Foley catheters, accesses equipment and performs CPR as needed. Recognizes life-threatening dysrhythmias and reports them.
Provides patient and family education regarding procedures.
Orders nourishment and supplies.
Maintains a clean and orderly patient/unit environment, restocks patient rooms, and cleans equipment monthly, with documentation.
Attends/participates in unit meetings.
Completes required competencies, inservice programs, annual mandatory education, and continuing education activities to meet the organization's expectations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma required Completion of Nurse Aide or Home Health Aid training program, graduate of accredited Nursing School or current student in accredited Nursing school upon recent completion of fundamentals.
BLS required EKG class completion Successful completion of dysrhythmias course within 12 months of hire
Minimum of one year of clinical experience preferred.
Previous unit experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Medical Terminology Basic computer skills
Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques Familiar with pre and post care for the diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular patient
Basic nursing care skills
Groin management/sheath pulls
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families and co-workers
Demonstrates an awareness of and assumes self-responsibility for working within the scope of the CVRU NCA role
Demonstrates the ability to remain calm during high work volume and crisis situations
Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve and prioritize unit needs independently, efficiently and effectively
Successful completion of the Nursing Care Assistant Simulation Lab
