Council On Foreign Relations is Hiring an Internship, U.S. Foreign Policy, Director of Studies, Summer 2024 Near Washington, DC

Overview

All who are selected to participate in CFR’s Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program receive training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs as well as skills training in writing, research, program planning, and much more.

The intern will gain exposure to policy research and think tanks, and develop research and writing skills in a professional context.

CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.

CFR’s summer internship program gives interns the opportunity to choose whether to work in our office in a hybrid capacity (half in the office, and half remote), or on an offsite fully remote basis. 

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting research on U.S. foreign policy, history, and the interactions between Congress and the executive branch on matters of foreign policy
  • Track daily news reports that are relevant for the department
  • Assist with writing and editing content, including research memos and briefs, blog posts, book chapters, content for the foreign policy blog, and other publications, as needed
  • Assist with CFR podcasts, including The World Next Week and The President’s Inbox

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student with concentration in International Relations, Political Science, History, or related field
  • All applicants should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship
  • Strong background in U.S. history is required
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading ability
  • Previous work experience in an office environment preferred, but not required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Pay Rate

$17.00 per hour
