Description

The Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi Newman Center is seeking a full-time Campus Minister to provide support for the daily operations of the Center. The Campus Minister collaborates and assists the rector-chaplain in his responsibility for the pastoral and spiritual care of the students, administration of the goods of the chapel and Center, and maintaining the furnishings and buildings. This is accomplished by caring for the facilities, coordinating social gatherings, managing and supervising the student interns, and working alongside the other Newman Center staff. The Campus Minister leads a life worthy of imitation as a practicing Catholic.

Responsibilities:

The list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

Administrative

  • Oversee day to day operations of the TAMUCC including finance, operations, and facilities management, including, but not limited to:
    • Creating a yearly budget
    • Paying bills by creating disbursement/reimbursement forms
    • Cast vision for future projects for the Newman Center and Chapel
  • Manage and supervise student interns:
    • Coordinates the application, interviewing, and training of applicants and student interns.
  • Coordinate and lead set gatherings, including but not limited to:
    • Wednesday Lunches
    • Kickoff - Orientation and welcome week
    • Graduation mass and reception
  • Promoting TAMUCC Newman center by establishing key relationships and resources in the community, on campus, and in the local parishes.
  • Coordinate the recruitment of volunteers
  • Organize files
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for development and in diocesan and regional meetings, programs, and projects as directed.

Ministerial

  • Create calendar of activities for campus ministry
  • Idea generation and carrying out of campus ministry events and gatherings
  • Support student formation that encourages and trains them to be effective leaders in church and society, rooted in Gospel values and in service.
  • Assist with faith and spiritual formation events, including but not limited to:
    • RCIA 
    • Pilgrimages
    • Retreats 
    • Service Projects 
    • Social gatherings
  • Attend (including preparation, set-up, and clean-up) regularly scheduled student weekly events.
  • Overseeing the design and updating the website, social media, and promotion of events
  • Coordinating (via a schedule or some other means) liturgical ministers
  • Collaborate with the Islander Catholic Student Organization
  • Coordinate student outreach and promotion of TAMUCC with other members of Newman staff.
  • Assist in hiring new interns on a yearly basis.
  • Ability to cook and a willingness to learn how to cook simple meals
  • Other ministry projects/programs as directed.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, Religious Studies, or a related field preferred
  • At least two years of ministry experience with a college or university campus ministry or young adult ministry
  • Know the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and live by them with an openness to learn more about the Faith
  • Food handler's license preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license

Mental and Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds or more
  • Must be able to maintain emotional control under duress

Additional Requirements:

  • Submit to required employment screenings, criminal history background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
  • Must complete certification in Safe Environment Training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
  • Adhere to diocesan policies and procedures
