Position Summary:

Autism Supports Professionals provide one-on-one services to individuals with autism ages 5 years through adulthood, teaching them various skills that greatly enhance their lives. We are seeking energetic applicants with a passion for working part-time with people with disabilities on individualized goals in areas such as social skills, communication, and daily living.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

To provide instruction, support and supervision to participants to teach appropriate skills and behaviors for maximum involvement and success in the community.

• Providing support and promoting opportunities which enhance the lives of individuals within the autism spectrum and their families.
• Utilize systems, policies. and procedures to ensure fiscal and operational responsibility (i.e. payroll systems , turning in paper work on time, etc.)
• Participate in training provided by supervision to learn about autism, the client's needs and goals, how to respond to various situations, how to document services, and other issues related to the job.
• Collaborate with the participants family and/or group home staff in order to keep open communication regarding the participants progress.
• Collaborate with the participants case manager and other professionals involved in providing services to the participant.
• Provide appropriate training in independence, rights, self-care, communication, social skills, recreational and leisure skills, and/or vocational and pre-vocational skills.
• Provide necessary supervision of the participant in all aspects of habilitation and teaching.
• Document each unit of service in the prescribed fashion on the progress note and the time sheet and submit to supervisor in a timely manner.
• Review the participants progress on an ongoing basis to keep goals and strategies appropriate for the participants level of ability.
• Receive supervision and feedback regarding job performance from the supervisor and the participants family.

Strong Candidates would have experience in or exposure to direct support, special education or special needs programs, teaching or education, or work with children or adults with disabilities.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED is required. Some college is preferred.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 10 pounds, stand, walk, sit, use hands or fingers, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Decision Making

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Communication

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Work Environment

Varies - In the field and office.
