Community College of Baltimore County is Hiring an Assistant Director, Student Accessibility Services Near Essex, MD

The Assistant Director for Student Accessibility Services encompasses several key responsibilities. These include managing and overseeing accommodations, coordination, and service delivery in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 2008, as well as ensuring institutional compliance with Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Working in collaboration with the director, the Assistant Director will play a crucial role in engaging students with disabilities in an interactive process. This process involves developing accommodation plans tailored to each student's needs, providing ongoing support to a caseload of students, and referring students to relevant campus resources as necessary.

Additionally, the Assistant Director will take on the responsibility of educating and training both campus and community partners about disability-related matters. By fostering understanding and awareness, to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for students with disabilities.

Master's degree is required. Degree in Disability Studies, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, or Special Education preferred. Minimum of three (3) years supervising full time staff in an advisement, student services or disability support services department, preferably in a community college setting, is required.

Five (5) years of full-time, professional work experience providing case management for individuals with disabilities, preferably in a college or university setting.

Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), as well as Maryland. Preference given to those with experience in disability services within the University or Community College System. Knowledge of Banner is desired. Experience working with coordination of accommodations and familiarity with alternative media and assistive technology is preferred. Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours preferred.

* Conduct regular meetings with staff to review policies and establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining goals and objectives.

* Collaborate with the director in the development of new programs, initiatives and strategies that are consistent with the College's mission.

* Participate in and lead a variety of meetings, committees, or other related groups to communicate information regarding services, programs, areas of opportunity, and/or other pertinent information as appropriate.

* Serve as a member of national and state career services related organizations and maintain applicable certifications

* Serve as Administrator on Duty responsibilities on an as needed basis.

* Ensure that the campus policies and procedures address the needs and concerns of student with disabilities and that these policies and procedures are in compliance with the Rehabilitation Act, the American Disabilities Act. This position is responsible for determining appropriate accommodations based on the disability. Provide appropriate recommendations to the College regarding accessibility standards and guidelines. Prepare related written reports for the Director, college Departments, as requested.

* Coordinate the day-to-day activities of Student Accessibility Services. Promote and facilitate the retention and equal academic access of all students with disabilities through active and focused engagement. Address inquiries regarding disabilities. Meet or communicate with enrolled students, potential students, outside agencies and resources, as well as family members, educating them about all disability services and relevant policies and procedures. Ensure appropriate accommodations for students by coordinating with other departments (e.g., Testing, Student Conduct and Student Outreach services). Serve as a resource regarding disabilities to the faculty and staff. Plan and implement professional development workshops to educate the campus community and conduct educational sessions for faculty and staff. Communicative information about program services to faculty, staff, students, and guest with disabilities to ensure programmatic and physical access.

* Responsible for reviewing student data to help continually improve student services and departmental success. Conduct program evaluations. Regularly monitor the academic progress of students with disabilities and provide necessary early intervention to enhance their success. Analyze statistical survey data to allow for informed decision making and to facilitate productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency in the planning, development, and implantation of relevant programs and services for students.

* Recruits hire, train and supervise student workers and assists the Director with supervision to external contracting service providers (i.e., CART and Interpreter Services).

* Actively participate in monthly Student Accessibility Services Departmental meetings. Communicate problem solving ideas with Director on challenging accommodation or disability related issues. Maintain membership in a collaborative relationship with the appropriate postsecondary professional association(s).

* Periodically attend professional conferences to stay current on issues affecting students with disabilities.
