Job Profile Summary

MultiCare Health system is looking for a dynamic oncology leader to join their growing organization. The MultiCare Cancer Institute Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology is responsible for the clinical direction of operational, programmatic, fiscal and Providers’ (Physician and Advanced Practice Provider) activities. The position integrates operational goals and objectives for the areas of ambulatory hematology/oncology clinics, infusion services, procedures, pharmacy, and lab at all locations across the MultiCare Cancer Institute and requires collaboration with nursing and medical staff leadership in both IP and ambulatory settings. The position’s major responsibility is directing clinical hematology/oncology programs; supporting regulatory, patient safety and quality initiatives; leading, mentoring and assuring the adequate and efficient provision of Provider resources; providing subject matter expertise and thought leadership for hematology/oncology research and innovation; and maintaining an environment that facilitates optimal patient care and provider and staff productivity and satisfaction. Collaborates and supports the AVP of Hematology/Oncology with planning, directing, and coordinating functions including: budget and financial performance; quality outcomes; customer service; Provider and staff development, performance and training; and, operational performance.

Principal Accountabilities

  • In collaboration with the AVP of Hematology/Oncology and Cancer Institute C-suite, oversees MultiCare Cancer Institute hematology/oncology service line to improve access, quality, cost, and experience of care for patients, maximizing value.
  • In partnership with the AVP of Hematology/Oncology and broader Cancer Institute, leads the approach to service excellence with a focus on improving patient and caregiver experience, Provider and staff experience across IP and ambulatory care settings.
  • Represents service line to the community, collaborating to ensure innovative patient education and access to services.
  • Works closely with all research, clinical and support services, sub-specialty Medical Directors, and disease program leads, across the Cancer Institute to achieve program goals.
  • Clinically oversees ambulatory operations of Cancer Institute hematology/oncology providers, including patient experience, Provider engagement, operational benchmarks, adherence to regulatory and patient safety requirements, quality improvements and optimization of clinic workflows, and meeting financial expectations.
  • With responsibility for financial viability of hematology/oncology clinical operations, works in collaboration with MultiCare Cancer Institute and Health System leaders to provide guidance of operating and capital asset (equipment, building, IS&T, etc.) needs, prioritize and manage investments to support hematology/oncology service line strategy across the Cancer Institute geography.
  • In partnership with the AVP of Hematology/Oncology and broader Cancer Institute, guides development of hematology/oncology, multidisciplinary, and disease-specific programs and services.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited medical school
  • Licensure to practice medicine in the state of Washington
  • Board-Certified in his/her/their respective specialty
  • Minimum of 3-5 years clinical experience providing direct patient care
  • A physician in good standing as a member of the attending or courtesy Medical Staff of MultiCare
  • Demonstrated leadership skills as a physician executive
  • Experience as a Medical Director or in a comparable medical leadership role preferred
  • Credentialed to practice in MultiCare Health System facilities
  • Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration or public health is preferred
  • Previous oncology experience, process improvement and medical staff services and support preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with diverse groups.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Cancer Institute Chief Medical Officer and MultiCare Health System Chief Physician Officer
  • Responsible for the oversight of employed MultiCare Hematology/Oncology physicians and APPs, including annual goal setting, evaluations, and quality management
