The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in the daily business operations of a retail store. General tasks include supervising employees, communicating with and helping customers. Responsible for carrying out store directives and assisting the store with meeting organizational goals. Responsible for training staff, managing inventory, ensuring a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing store environment, sustaining a forward moving culture, and assisting customers. Able to promptly address and resolve customer complaints and any staff issues.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1. Assist the store manager in all areas of daily business operations, human resources, customer service and merchandising, running the store in the Store Manager's absence
2. Coordinate, monitor and report on daily operations
3. Work alongside human resources to recruit, train, and supervise employees
4. Work with department managers to manage employee schedules, conduct performance reviews, and enforce disciplinary actions
5. Work with department managers to monitor and maintain suitable store inventory levels
6. Cultivate and maintain positive professional relationships throughout departments and all Co-op locations
7. Provide and set example for excellent customer service
8. Understand and adhere to the cooperative principles
9. Adhere to and model the behavior described in the Manager's Code of Conduct
10. Act as a subject matter expert on Co-op membership and the basics of the cooperative movement

Required Skills/Experience and Attributes:

1. High school diploma/GED
2. 5 to 7 years of retail management experience, grocery experience preferred
3. Previous retail management experience
4. Experience in training and managing a team
5. Strong leadership and people management skills
6. Excellent communication and organizational skills
