Deli and Food Service Department Manager
A Deli and Food Service Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Deli and Bakery departments. They must be courteous, customer-focused, and committed to providing customers with the best service possible. They will clean and prepare workstations and displays, stock incoming product, answer questions and respond to customer requests, and provide information to customers to ensure that they select the products that best fit their needs. They will have shared accountability for financial performance of assigned departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Providing responsive, exceptional service to Deli counter customers by answering questions, making recommendations, providing samples, and responding to requests.
· Preparing grab-n-go food items such as sandwiches, wraps, and salads.
· Preparing and maintaining the bakery display case. Examples include preparation of products like muffins, cookies, pies, and scones.
· Train and coach department staff members on recipe execution, merchandising standards, and best-in-class customer service.
· Stock, rotate and merchandise prepared deli cases.
· Updating displays, cases, and other customer-facing areas to ensure all items and promotions are appealing and appetizing.
· Ensuring that work areas are ready to service customers by cleaning surfaces, equipment, and floors, removing trash, and confirming that tools are in working order.
· Following all food safety and sanitation procedures established by the company and other regulatory agencies.
· Responsible for ordering product for all assigned departments to maintain stock.
· Responsible for inventory control including out of stocks, back stock, and shrink.
· Must have open availability. Fresh Department Managers may be required to perform Manager-on-Duty responsibilities such as opening and closing.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education requirements:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience/Skills:
· Minimum 6 months of customer service experience.
· Deli counter or food preparation experience is required.
· Ability to operate equipment, ovens, blenders, scales, cash registers, etc.
· Excellent customer service, communication, and math skills.
· Ability to comprehend and follow all company procedures and regulations regarding food handling and sanitation.
· A courteous and efficient approach to handling customer requests, questions, and complaints.
· A Food Safety Manager Certification is required within first 60 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift 50 pounds.
· Ability to stand throughout shift.
· Ability to lift items above head.
· Ability to stoop, bend and lift items.
