Position SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated Maintenance Supervisor to join our team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day care and clean ing of assigned park and in geographical zone within Portland Parks. The ideal candidate will excel in planning, scheduling, coordinating, and tracking maintenance projects of various scales, ensuring the upkeep and improvement of our city's green spaces.
What You'll Get To Do
  • Provide daily cleaning and care to Portland Parks assigned to your portfolio.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor employees reflective of the diverse communities in Portland.
  • Supervise a skilled team, including full-time employees and seasonal staff.
  • Provide day-to-day support and coordination for staff, ensuring efficient workflow.
  • Create, edit, and monitor crew schedules, ensuring accurate time entry.
  • Address questions and concerns from the public, providing exceptional customer service and solutions-oriented approaches.
  • Review and provide feedback on proposed park improvements and developments.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to increase access to nature for BIPOC communities.
  • Contribute to the achievement of PP&R’s Five-Year Racial Equity Plan.
  • Develop and manage the program budget of the assigned portfolio.

To Qualify
The Following Minimum Qualifications Are Required For This PositionKnowledge of construction, including code compliance, irrigation systems, and pesticide usage.Experience supervising field employees from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.Experience applying safe working practices and ensuring compliance with city, state, and OSHA standards.Experience with budget management, timekeeping, and recordkeeping, including relevant software and hardware.Experience working collaboratively to problem solve and manage small to large projects while applying an equity lens. Although not required, you may have one or more of the following:
  • Degree in horticulture, construction, or landscape management and design.
  • Degree in turf and irrigation design and management.
  • Previous experience providing maintenance supervision for a similar Parks program.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

  • Additional evaluation may be required prior to establishment of the eligible list and/or final selection.

  • Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list.
