Leisure Services Director

City of Newnan, GA

The City of Newnan seeks a Leisure Services Director who is a dedicated team player and has a proven record of success in leadership and management of leisure services functions within a public/governmental agency or private sector organization. The successful candidate should be an experienced, self-confident person who can provide quality services to a variety of service departments in a timely manner and is able to address workforce problems with diplomacy and tact.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration
  • Considerable knowledge of the equipment facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program
  • A background of Leisure Service skills at a supervisory level
  • Three years or more of management experience

General Duties:

Responsible for the overall management and operation of community facilities, including, but not limited to: rentals, contract management though community partners, limited program development, and event promotion at Wadsworth Auditorium, Wesley Street Gym, Picket Field Lynch Park Pool, C. J. Smith Park, Howard Warner Gym and Community Room, First Avenue Park, Temple Avenue Park and Greenville Street Park, and other city owned facilities.

Organizes, administers and supervises all approved programs for the citizens of Newnan. Promotes and coordinates community groups for their activities and programs in the above designated facilities. Evaluates the programs and procedures, provides information to the public on these programs and maintains relevant records.

Identifies the needs of the community and ensures the optimum use of city-owned facilities through partnerships with program providers.

Works closely with Community Partners, Organizations and Neighborhoods.

Manages facilities in a manner which provides the maximum benefit to the community and its residents.

Promotes and provides administrative assistance and coordinates the use of all available facilities.

Provides the Assistant City Manager with written and verbal reports appraising of activities, initiatives, issues, etc. Reviews the programs and procedures and assists with the carrying out of these procedures.

Prepares departmental operational and capital budgets. Develops written goals and objectives annually. Develops marketing and promotion strategies for the department as it relates to the overall corporate goals.

Provides various community groups with information regarding related departmental City Council policies, procedures and practices. Attends community group meetings as requires as well as Council meetings.

Coordinates staff in the development and implementation of community Leisure Services and Programs.
