Prepares athletic fields for play, including striping, dragging, and leveling fields. Will lay sod, repair worn out turf, spread seed, apply fertilizer, top dress and control weeds. Will properly level and maintain pitcher mounds and batter boxes. Assists with ball field related special event preparation, operation and clean-up as required. Works with crew under supervision. Operates and maintains the appearance of hand tools, power equipment, trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, landscaping equipment and all other equipment pertaining to this position.  Mows and edges grass; trims plants and shrubs; removes and replaces sod, flowers and shrubs.  Performs other duties as required.
High school diploma or equivalent.  At least two (2) years of experience in athletic field maintenance is preferred.  Experience in lawn/landscaping maintenance is a plus. A valid Florida driver's license is required.  Must possess or obtain a Valid Florida Class "B" CDL within 1 year of hire.  A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Labor-intensive position with the ability to move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally up to 100 lbs. Ability to communicate and understand through oral and written instructions. Ability to safely operate required hand, electronic, mechanical tools and equipment.  Ability to operate mowers, edgers and string trimmers.  Ability to perform cemetery and turf maintenance. Must be willing to learn the operation of a tractor. Must be able to see, hear, talk, climb, push, pull, bend, lift, kneel and follow oral instructions.  Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.  Exposure to loud noises, machinery hazards, chemicals, gasses, paint, etc. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, city officials, regulatory agencies and personnel and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation or political affiliation. Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
