POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor perform a variety of journey level construction work, maintenance and repair duties in one or more of the building and construction trades to maintain and repair City buildings, pools and cemetery facilities; perform skilled to semi-skilled maintenance duties in trade areas outside of specialty; perform custodial duties as assigned; assist in the purchase of supplies and equipment and maintain records related to work performed. All duties will be performed in accordance with the local and state electrical, building and construction codes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform journey-level construction, maintenance and repair duties in one or more of the building and construction trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, building architecture, pool maintenance, masonry, or painting; mechanical skills are required, perform skilled to semi-skilled maintenance duties outside of specialty. Light computer skills.
Act as lead staff on projects involving specialty and assist with other projects outside of specialty; direct other staff as necessary or required.
Install, maintain and repair systems following blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, schematics, manuals and applicable building codes. Enter records into the city facility maintenance program including daily work completed, parts used and time spent for example.
Install, work from, and remove scaffolding, stages, planks, ladders, jacks, lifts, spider staging and other work platforms; drive service truck as required; load and unload supplies; develop preliminary cost estimates for repairs and installations.
Operate a variety of equipment, machinery, and hand and power tools including trucks, gauges, meters and various testing equipment, scissor lifts, specialized equipment for the trade.
Implement and perform a variety of preventive maintenance programs for City facilities, equipment, systems and machinery to include cleaning and replacement of parts as needed; perform energy consumption evaluations; provide recommendations for energy conservation improvements where appropriate.
Inspect and evaluate needed construction or repair; estimate time, materials and cost requirements; assist in acquisition of proper materials at the best price; complete purchasing documents and recommend purchase of selected materials, equipment and parts; prepare and maintain records and reports related to work performed.
Research and gather data to perform design and drafting duties in assisting manufacturers design for various projects to include construction of new or additional facilities.
Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to: Five years' experience in the field as a journey-level installation and repair technician with experience in a variety of building, HVAC or construction trades.
Valid driver's license. Licensure by the State of Idaho in trade area if required.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Operation and proper maintenance of tools, equipment, materials, procedures and machinery used in a variety of building and construction trades.
Applicable building codes, ordinances fire regulations and safety laws.
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
Health and safety practices, regulations and procedures.
ABILILTY TO:
Install, modify, test, repair, calibrate and operate a variety of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and electronic equipment and apparatus used in a variety of building maintenance trades.
Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair in trade areas outside of specialty.
Work independently with little direction or as a member of a crew. Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Estimate time, materials and labor needed for project completion.
Apply current laws, rules, and methods in the building trades.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Subject to indoor, outdoor and shop environments; to driving from site to site to conduct work; to seasonal heat, cold, temperature changes and extreme weather conditions and to noise from equipment operation.

Physical demands include heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing and walking for extended periods of time; climbing and bending at the waist; walking over rough and uneven surfaces; crawling, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders and working at heights; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power tools and equipment; and sight to observe and effect needed repairs.

Exposure to working on ladders or scaffolding; high voltage; working in cramped or restrictive work chambers; working around and with heavy machinery having moving parts; fumes from vehicles and equipment operation; and dust, dirt, oil/grease, gases and pollen.
