City of Indianola is Hiring an Office Assistant, Community Development and Public Works Near Indianola, IA

The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the full-time position of Office Assistant in the Community Development and Public Works Department.
The City of Indianola (pop. 15,833) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people, and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera, The National Balloon Museum, and the U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks, and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair, and other events.
This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:
  • Performs receptionist duties for the Community Development, Public Works, Streets, and Water Resource Recovery Departments, providing information and assistance to persons calling or entering the office.
  • Performs data entry, typing, scanning, filing, and other clerical duties as directed; reviews information for completeness, enters information and prepares reports.
  • Provides information and assistance to contractors and residents regarding permits and regulations.
  • Responsible for taking minutes of the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment meetings and attending other evening meetings as deemed necessary; must be available to work some nights.
The successful candidate will have:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer additional courses in computer and office operation.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in receptionist/clerical type work including data entry, word processing, and customer service. Any equivalent combination of experiences and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Knowledge of municipal regulations and a construction background is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $22.969 - $31.033 /hour. This is a full-time, non-union, non-exempt position, requiring 40 hours per week. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a post-offer drug screening and background check. The position is open until 04/28/2024 with a first review of applications on 04/29/2024.
