Job Description
Salary Range:
Intern I: $15.14 Hourly- Intern I: $18.93 Hourly
Intern II: $18.40 Hourly- Intern II: $23.00 Hourly
Job Summary:
The City of Greeley's internship program provides hands-on experience for students exploring career opportunities in government service and related fields. Community Development Planning currently has two part-time, seasonal internship positions to assist with long-range planning tasks. As an intern, you will report directly to the Chief Planner in the Community Development Department for the City of Greeley.
The position runs from May through August 2024 for 16-20 hours per week during normal working hours (8a-5p, Monday through Friday). This is a paid internship designed for a student or recent graduate in Urban Planning or a planning-related field including but not limited to: Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Studies, or Pre-law.
*Intern Level will be determined by Level of Education and Experience.
Salary Ranges:
Intern I: $15.14 - $18.93 Hourly
Intern II: $18.40 - $23.00 Hourly
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license, with two (2) years of driving experience and a clear driving record in order to drive for the City.
Intern I:
  • Current college student or recent graduate in Urban Planning or planning-related field, including but not limited to Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Studies, or Pre-Law.
Intern II:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Current Graduate student or recent graduate in Urban Planning or planning-related field, including but not limited to Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Studies, or Pre-Law.
    • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and stay on task when completing special projects and daily assignments.
  • Ability to maintain a strong work ethic, positive problem-solving attitude, and enthusiasm for the work performed.
  • Ability to self-start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and special projects.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.
  • Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems.
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
  • Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.
Essential Functions:
  • Surveys work and completes inventory forms.
  • Requires travel throughout the City to conduct surveys.
  • Ability to use judgment in evaluating conditions and attributes of land, infrastructure, improvements, and opportunities.
  • Prepares written and verbal reports for staff, appointed and elected officials.
  • Participates in design charettes.
  • Gathers and synthesizes public input.
  • Assists with reviews of land use proposals.
  • Assists with the design of future studies.
  • Other duties as assigned
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work Environment
  • Time will be spent partially in an office with occasional field work in variable weather conditions necessary.
Physical Requirements
  • Manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and related equipment.
  • Hearing and speech enough to communicate to with the public, as well as staff and appointed and elected officials, etc.
  • Mobility enough to access sites in urban, rural, or rough terrain such as farm/fields/ditch banks.
Travel
  • May be required to travel up to 50% of the time.
