City of Friendswood is Hiring an Equipment operator Near Friendswood, TX

The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a full-time Equipment Operator in the Public Works Department, Streets & Drainage Division.

WORK PERFORMED

  • Operates heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of street and drainage facilities.
  • Drives dump truck for the Streets and Drainage section to assist in repairing sidewalks, streets, driveways and ditches;
  • Routinely operates backhoe and other tractors, and drives crew trucks to haul other crewmembers, material, and equipment to and from the worksite.
  • Maintains and repairs streets, curbs, and sidewalks, using a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Installs and repairs storm sewers, inlets, and storm manholes.
  • Operates laser-leveling equipment to determine ditch elevations for grading and maintenance.
  • Operates water jet truck to clean culverts and storm sewers.
  • Provides emergency response to remove fallen trees, storm debris, assist in emergency repairs, and respond to traffic emergencies, after normal business hours.
  • Complies with normal safety precautions to prevent injury or accidents to self or others.
  • Performs other duties within the areas of responsibility and ability as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • 5-10 years of similar or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working for a City, County or State is preferred.
  • Experience interpreting policies, procedures and methods in the public works or construction industry.

KNOWLEDGE or SKILL PROFICIENCIES

  • Ability to make decisions efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and mature manner
  • Ability to translate and understand grade and elevation.
  • Proficient in the use of a transit and grade rod and / or laser.
  • Universally proficient in the use of multiple types of heavy machinery i.e., backhoe, excavator, Gradall, and dump trucks.

WORKING CONDITIONS : Primarily outside work. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions. Position requires heavy lifting (e.

g., greater than 50 pounds) and extended period of sitting, walking, and standing. Position incumbent is constantly exposed to dirt, dust, noise, heat, cold and dampness and occasionally exposed to odors, fumes, and bad lighting.

Job may require above-average agility and dexterity. Job may also require physical exertion for long periods of time. Continuously uses heavy equipment, power drills and saws, chainsaws, industrial weed trimmers, and a variety of hand tools.

This position may require 24 hour availability in emergency situations.
