DEFINITION :
The purpose of this job/class within the organization is to maintain and repair city roads, right of way, and properties. This job/class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all-inclusive) :
Operates hand and power tools to service or maintain city roads, right of ways, and properties or equipment such as sewer/water systems, parks, roadways, or buildings. Operates large equipment and vehicles, including dump trucks, clam trucks, boom mowers, asphalt patch trucks, and thermoplastic applicators, to service city roads, right of ways, and properties. Installs asphalt, concrete, sod, thermoplastic striping, and other materials in the repair of city roads, right of ways, and properties. Conducts skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the completion of assigned jobs, such as assisting the sign technician with creating, installing, repairing, and maintaining all types of street signs in compliance with the MUTCD (Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices). Completes reports such as daily logs and time sheets. Operates radio communications equipment while setting up MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) and controlling traffic. Program speed trailers and programmable message boards utilized for traffic surveys, city events, and emergency situations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of one (1) year previous experience or training related to landscaping, concrete, asphalt, striping, or sign/signalization preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS :
Requires a Class B commercial driver's license, with air brakes and tanker endorsement, and a valid DOT medical card required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire. Must possess and maintain, or have the ability to possess, within one (1) year of appointment to the position the following: a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Approved Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification & an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs & Markings Level I certification. The position is subject to being "on call" and working after normal City work hours as well as on weekends and holidays.
