Job Description

As an Equipment Operator I, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our streets, sidewalks, and city right-of-way remain safe and functional.

Examples of Duties

  • Operate medium equipment and specialized power tools such as dry saws, wet saws, and jackhammers for street maintenance and sidewalk repairs.
  • Perform concrete work including forming, pouring, and finishing for curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
  • Assist in the installation of storm sewer systems and general street maintenance tasks like spraying and cleaning storm drains.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as tree removal, ice and snow removal, and water / sewer repairs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Valid NC Driver's license.

Preferred Requirements

  • Prior experience in equipment operation and maintenance preferred.
  • Class (B) CDL driver's license or the ability to obtain within six months of employment date. We will assist you with obtaining if needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This role demands medium physical exertion, frequently requiring the completion of tasks and movement of objects. The employee must possess keen visual acuity to ensure precision, tidiness, and thoroughness in assigned work.

Duties typically involve performing basic life operational functions such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and engaging in repetitive motions.

Visual acuity is essential for operating trucks, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment effectively.

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
