Description Summary: The cardiac cath lab nurse is able to assess, manage and provide safe care to the patient undergoing procedures in the cardiac cathMonitors each patient for arrhythmias and complicationsPerforms initial assessment of the cath lab patient and ongoing assessments throughout theprocedureAdministers and monitors medications for moderate sedation in accordance to facility policiesIs able to recognize signs and symptoms of potential complications and impending deteriorationDocuments progress according to hospital policy and procedureAssists physician with proceduresPrepares each patient by setting up and prepping prior to the procedureManages cardiac cath insertion sites including sheath monitoring pre and post sheath removalRemoves sheaths and holds pressure to cath sitesAssures necessary consents are completed and patient identification is confirmedTakes call for emergency procedures according to departmental/hospital guidelinesDemonstrates a working knowlegde of all monitoring equipment in the Cath labResponsible for hemodynamic monitoring during procedures Requirements: A. Education/SkillsGraduate of a State Board School of Nursing or equivalentBachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.B. ExperienceOne (1) year of critical care experience preferredC.
