The Student Assistant will work closely with the University Health Nurse Practitioner and the team of Student Assistants to create a wellness promotion plan and to deliver educational events and activities on various wellness issues for students. Successful candidates are expected to serve as leaders and role models in their efforts, and to serve as an extension of the professional Wellness Center staff and the Student Affairs Division of Stevenson University.
Education/Experience
Currently enrolled Stevenson University student in good standing with the University academically and judicially and must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Previous student leadership, peer education, event planning and /or wellness education experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
* Art and/or graphic design experience with an interest in wellness communication and/or issues preferred, including social media and print materials.
* Must be a role model for responsible and healthy lifestyle choices and enthusiastic about educating peers on wellness issues.
* Must possess strong verbal skills and the desire to present information to peers. Public speaking or presentation experience preferred.
* Must demonstrate the ability to work with individuals and groups in a leadership capacity.
* Must be able to organize and manage a variety of projects simultaneously and demonstrate positive work attitude, dependability and responsibility.
* Genuine interest in student wellness and activities.
* Willingness to learn new projects.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements
Light work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Keyboarding, standing and/or sitting, walking, talking and hearing. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal. Subject to both environmental conditions, activities occur inside and outside.
Essential Functions
* Work collaboratively with the Wellness Center staff to create a strategic plan for peer-ed wellness events and activities.
* Meet weekly with the University Health Nurse Practitioner and other team members to maintain communication and our forward progress towards established goals.
* Assist in developing and implementing educational and social programs geared towards education of healthy habits, wellness, alcohol and other drug issues. Be well versed on wellness and AOD topics, including; alcohol and other drug use/abuse, healthy relationships (communication, verbal, /physical abuse) and personal health.
* Participate in Open houses/Accepted Student Days on occasional Saturdays throughout the year.
* Participate in tabling events and other initiatives as needed
* Complete the NASPA Peer-Educator certification within 4 weeks of starting position
* Work at the front desk managing visitor traffic, assisting with in-coming phone calls, and scheduling appointments
