Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Candidate will support Solid Waste/Thermal Destruction Lab efforts for the US Navy. Candidate must be a Licensed Electrician .
LOCATION: Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock, West Bethesda, MD.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Testing system installations and basic test rig construction - such as, wood/plywood mock ups and running low pressure PVC piping for water.
  • Assisting with lab evaluations of equipment being tested.
  • Assist engineers with wiring of data loggers, sensors, PLC components, etc.
  • Prepare test mixes by weighing and shredding waste materials (such as plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, etc.).
  • Operate legacy Navy solid waste processing equipment, such as a shredder and the plastic waste processor (PWP), to produce disks and mini-disks for public outreach efforts.
EDUCATION:
MINIMUM:
  • Shall be a trade/industrial school graduate or have a GED
    equivalent
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum Certification: Shall possess a Maryland (or reciprocal) state issued Electrician's License
  • Ability to work independently, with little oversite, and has a sense of how to prioritize tasking.
  • Works well in a laboratory/shop environment. The workspace is mostly indoors, but with limited heating and cooling capabilities in the building.
  • Aptitude for using general tools and power tools (drill press, sanders, saws, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate well with engineers and scientists to help them interpret their visions into something which can be realistically constructed.
  • Works well with other technicians and contractors to complete larger projects, when necessary.
  • Candidate will be required to wear appropriate PPE, which at times, may include a respirator, earplugs/muffs, gloves, safety goggles, etc.
  • Navy experience would be a plus, but not required.
