George Washington University is Hiring an Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations Near Washington, DC

I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

Assistant Director of Alumni Relations, Health & Medicine serves a key role on the Constituent Engagement team within the GW Health and Medicine Development team, which serves the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), the School of Nursing (SON), and the Milken Institute School of Public Health (SPH). Our goal is to advance GW’s mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care. The George Washington University Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is responsible for leading the university’s fundraising and alumni engagement efforts.

This position reports to the Executive Director of Constituent Engagement for Health and Medicine, and is integral to achieving aspirational fundraising and engagement goals and will support alumni relations and development activities for SMHS, SON, and SPH. The Assistant Director’s work will grow and enhance alumni and donor affinity and engagement across all three schools.

The successful candidate will be motivated, collaborative, and adaptable and work well in a small, fast-paced team environment.

The Assistant Director will focus their time working with strategic alumni populations as defined by the Executive Director. Occasional travel may be required to meet with alumni and attend events. Additionally, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the development and execution of programs and events for alumni and donors that highlight SMHS, SON, and SPH deans, faculty, and departments. Utilize existing opportunities to enhance and deepen alumni and donor engagement. Develop and execute engagement plans for strategically important constituencies as identified by the Executive Director, and present new ideas and strategies to the Executive Director for approval.
  • Recruit, train, manage, and steward alumni volunteers in the execution of alumni programs and events as appropriate. In collaboration with the broader Health & Medicine DAR team, partner with each school’s admissions, academic programs, and career services offices, and the central DAR team, to identify alumni volunteer opportunities.
  • Develop and execute marketing and outreach plans to engage constituents of the three schools via various channels. Communication types include quarterly e-newsletters, event invitations, school news, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Responsible for analyzing and reporting benchmarking and metrics of activities, programs, and events coordinated by the Health and Medicine DAR team.
  • Attend events as needed to foster greater donor awareness and participation across all three schools. Use events to build relationships with attendees and understand their interests to further engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience within a higher education, non-profit, or healthcare system setting preferred.
  • Experience in alumni relations, volunteer management, event planning, communications, and/or marketing preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and attention to detail.
