Charleston Area Medical Center is Hiring a Women’s Service Director of Labor & Delivery Near Ronceverte, WV

GVMC is hiring for a Women’s Service Director of Labor & Delivery.

The Women’s Service Director will plan, organize, supervise, implement and evaluate patient services in order to provide safe, efficient and therapeutic care within hospital policies and national standards. Work is coordinated with medical staff, professional nursing staff, other departments and community agencies.

Responsibilities

Plan, direct, implement, coordinate and improve services of assigned department: 1. Provide optimum assistance to the SLA in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating as related to the department. 2. Ensure quality patient care through continuous monitors and other effective measures of monitoring in cooperation with Corporate Nursing QI. 3. Prepare reports, as directed, concerning department activities. 4. Prepare the annual budget and assume responsibility of their department. 5. Encourage professional growth of staff. 6. Encourage cooperation within the Service Line and between the other Service Lines and other hospital departments. 7. Assist in the supervision and evaluation of personnel and other department personnel as necessary. 8. Interpret and administer hospital personnel policies as they affect personnel. 9. Maintain department, institution, and licensure (if applicable) required education. Document appropriately. 10. Responsible for integrating continuous, quality improvement into department and institution operations, and demonstrate a commitment to the process. 11. Support and assist employee participation in the continuous, quality improvement processes. 12. Reinforce employee understanding of work integration with other departments throughout the institution. 13. Patient Care Management o Assume twenty-four (24) hour responsibility for assigned areas. Organize these areas consistent with the total Service Line organizational structure. o Monitor patient care activities and nursing unit management. o Plan with the Corporate Nursing Administration the numbers and levels of personnel required to provide quality nursing care. o Maintain and facilitate open communications regarding patient status and staffing needs. o Evaluate the mode of care given and initiates changes as necessary in cope ration with Corporate Nursing. o Coordinate with other departments to maintain a therapeutic environment. o Review, update, and facilitate the use of patient care policies and procedures in cooperation with Nursing Practice Council. o Act as a resource for staff members. o Assess the need to define and redefine standards of care, protocols, and job descriptions in each corporate area according to needs of the patient in cooperation with nursing. o Evaluate existing physical environment. o Assure communication of patient and unit activities to supervisors assuming eight (8) hour responsibility for areas. o Coordinate Quality Improvement Program in assigned areas in cooperation with Nursing QI Council. o Promote nursing research based practice. 14. Personnel Resource Management o Facilitate evaluation of unit personnel, positive and disciplinary counseling, and career counseling based on objectives. o Facilitate professional growth and responsibility by delegating duties to staff members commensurate with job classification and personal ability. o Facilitate area staff meetings. o Assure staff meetings (at least monthly) on unit to provide information, discuss patient care, problem solve, and provide feedback. o Assure appropriate employee orientation by qualified personnel. o Facilitate staff development of sensitivity and awareness of patient/personnel needs in the creation of harmonious interpersonal relationships within the unit and with other hospital departments and the community. o Coordinate interviewing, hiring, and termination of employees. o Facilitate individual employee participation in the decision making process. o Coordinate with supervisors to ensure continuity of effective unit management on a twenty-four (24) hour basis. o Assign responsibility and delegate authority. o Utilize negotiating skills in motivating personnel, obtaining objectives, and resolving conflict. o Assist in recruiting and retaining employees. o Facilitate all levels of student opportunities for learning with varied schools of nursing and allied health. 15. Fiscal/Physical Resource Management o Assess unit needs and develop realistic goals and objectives. o Collaborate with SLA to formulate budgetary projections. o Determine and maintain acceptable staffing patterns based on patient classification data and professional nursing standards which provides nursing care to all patients twenty-four (24) hours a day. Collaborates with charge nurse for unit coverage. o Communicate and coordinate with SLA regarding unit progress, plans, problems, etc. Make recommendations for appropriate changes. o Promote and maintain a professional and/or therapeutic decorum on the nursing units. o Assure personnel follow through with timely flow of information, e.g. reports, incident reports, patient complaints, etc. o Assure unit availability of all resource manuals and act as a resource in the interpretation of all current policies, procedures and forms. o Monitor and approve use of leaves of absence. o Assure proper utilization of supplies and equipment. o Recommend and justify any deviation from approved budget. 16. Personal Acumen o Assume responsibility for own personal and professional growth, recognizing the need to increase own knowledge and maintain and expand skills. o Represent CAMC in community functions. o Exhibit professional behavior. o Participate on Nursing Councils and hospital committees. o Exhibit consistency in leadership. Maintain an environment in which questions are welcome and needs for guidance are met. Tactfully adjust to personalities and circumstances. o Serve as an effective role model through appearance, attendance, commitment, and competence. o Assume responsibility in the absence of the SLA as assigned. 17. Non-Essential Duties: o Perform related duties as assigned. o Validates and maintains departmental competencies and quality for point-of-care-testing.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • 5-7 years of nursing experience
  • Valid WV RN license or multi-state RN license
