ABOUT THE POSITION
Sun Valley Academy is looking for a highly qualified, motivated, and energetic Middle School (M.S.) Science Teacher for the 2024-25 school year! We are seeking to hire an individual who's a self-starter, reliable, possesses strong leadership capabilities, a love for children and a passion for education! The M.S. Science Teacher will rotate grades to teach their assignments. We are seeking candidates who are reliable and punctual, in order to provide continuity and stability in the classroom and that demonstrate personal values to students in everyday settings.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a welcoming, safe and attractive classroom environment, and establish high standards of student behavior
- Plans and develops an engaging, grade-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and state and school district curriculum guidelines
- Designs and presents individual lesson plans in Mathematics using a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to various learning styles and methods
- Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance
- Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise
- Monitors students' progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for high school
- Communicates all progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principal
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents and colleagues
- Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors
- Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records
- Monitors halls, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to navigate classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or related subject required
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- One year of teaching experience in an elementary or junior high school setting
