SUMMARY

We're looking for a chemist to join our team and help us build safe, high-quality products. You will conduct various tests on chemical products, analyze their compounds and refine their composition. This is a mid-level chemist role where you will be expected to demonstrate a teachable attitude and a dedication to improvement by carefully following instructions, asking clarifying questions, and taking personal notes as required.

To be successful in this role, you'll need to perform methods and gather data from specialized instrumentation to develop the ability to independently perform all routine analyses including calibration, trouble shooting and training as needed. The Chemist II operates instrumentation regularly and ensures the quality of data and is comfortable writing technical reports and analyses of your findings. The Chemist II ensures that activities are carried out in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform physical, chemical, and instrumental analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished pharmaceutical products (tablets, capsules, parenterals, devices, aerosols, liquids, creams, and gels)

  • Processes and interprets analytical data from chromatograms and datasheets for acceptability with minimal guidance. Performs data/peer review and is capable of technical review. Maintains proper cGMP/GLP documentation standards and good documentation practices.

  • Prepares reagents and standards and prepares samples of various matrices to be analyzed on instrumentation.

  • Writes standard technical reports and other documents pertaining to results and analytical methods, and assists with the development and revision of SOPs for laboratory procedures. Capable of writing SOPs pertaining to analytical techniques with minimal assistance.

  • Preparing samples for analysis and running some instrumentation with minimum supervision where considered having expert knowledge of at least two (2) types of instrumentation with the ability to identify issues, troubleshoot and work with leadership to resolve them when required.

  • Execute method transfer protocols

  • Leads preventive maintenance on instrumentation to maximize instrument lifetime.

  • Works in conjunction with technicians to ensure a seamless transition from raw sample to final results.

  • Perform any of the responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician if such assistance is required.

  • Interprets and explains results in conjunction with manager.

  • Assists with special projects requiring long-term testing or very specialized technical skill.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May indirectly supervise lab techs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related degree concentration, or equivalent directly-related experience. Master's degree in related field is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of regulations (local and federal), Good Laboratory Practices, and current official methods with at least 3 years experience working in an accredited laboratory.

  • Experience in an FDA, cGMP, DEA, ISO, ICH regulated environment.

  • Experience as a CovetrusChemist I is a plus.

  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

  • Experience in scientific research or Quality Control laboratory work.
