Cellares is Hiring a Senior Controls Simulation Engineer (I, II, III) Near South San Francisco, CA
We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated engineer who will contribute significantly to the development of simulation and virtual commissioning capabilities for our advanced cell therapy manufacturing platform. The primary focus of this position will be the design of virtual commissioning tools and a digital twin of the Cell Shuttle platform. You will lead the selection of simulation tools and the development of infrastructure to support these tools. You will also work with the software, mechanical, and systems teams to test and deploy control code as part of the overall automation system. The ideal candidate is passionate about using simulation tools to enable the design of robust and highly automated systems. This individual will interface across many parts of the company to develop novel products used in the cell therapy and gene therapy world. Candidates should enjoy working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and be prepared to tackle a broad selection of challenges as the company grows. Responsibilities
Lead the development of virtual commissioning tools and simulation strategies for Cellares products
Drive the selection of technologies and architectures that enable the development of robust and usable virtual commissioning tools
Strategically develop simulation tools that make good business sense, enabling testing and iteration to improve product quality and performance
Develop integrations to industrial PLCs and robot software packages
Leverage vendor and external tools such as Siemens Process Simulate, iPhysics, WinMod, etc to develop simulation capabilities
Work closely with controls engineers, software engineers and the mechanical team to develop accurate models of the system and to enable running end to end software with HIL/SIL integration
Collaborate with DevOps teams to incorporate simulation into an overall CI/CD strategy
Contribute to PLC code when necessary to support simulation functions, for example to integrate I/O from external simulation tools
Participate in design reviews and provide input to identify issues and drive design choices
Collaborate with the controls and software teams to develop robust, well documented interfaces
Collaborate with external stakeholders including Systems Engineering, Quality, Mechanical Engineering, Process Development, etc. for project planning, requirements development, and architecture development
Requirements
Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
5 years of industry experience developing systems incorporating industrial robotics and motion control systems for customer-shippable life science instrumentation or comparable equipment
Experience as a technical/engineering lead on multiple projects incorporating multi-axis industrial robots from a major vendor such as KUKA, Fanuc, Yaskawa, ABB, or Staubli
Experience incorporating robots and PLCs into virtual commissioning models
Experience with at least one major virtual commissioning software such as Siemens Process Simulate, iPhysics, DELMIA v6, etc.
Understanding motion control as it applies to industrial automation and the creation of appropriate kinematic models for use in simulation
Proficient with IEC 61131-3 based languages with a focus on Structured Text
Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings
Basic experience with Fieldbus technologies such as EtherCAT, Profinet, EtherNet/IP
Proficiency with one computer programming language such as Python, C#, Java
Desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment
Self-awareness, integrity, authenticity, and a growth mindset
Nice to Haves
Proficient with object-oriented programming and have an understanding of how to apply OOP concepts to control software
Experience with at least one major HMI software, such as Ignition, Wonderware, WinCC
